Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
Has any one seen or purchased the Chrome inner fenders for the 67-73 pickup. i was thinking about getting them because they are under $100 a piece. but at that price i was wondering about the quality of chrome/fit.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
Probably safe to say that the quality is not very high. Chances are, if you get them to fit, they will look like crap in a year or so. Just my opinion.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
From theones I seen already installed they looked good. But also seen one that was a few years old (say maybe 3) it was rusted on the edges & had several scrapes that also turned red.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
Any chrome takes constant maintainence to keep from pitting, especially aftermarket chrome. The answer to how to keep chrome from rusting is,"Wax,wax, and more wax".I know I wouldn`t stay on top of those and even if I did I know it would be about impossible to get to all the areas of the inner fender.Like around lug nuts on a chrome wheel.I always look at them knowing it would be best to pull the wheels and give a proper cleaning/waxing,but never do.Then comes the rust.I can`t imagine keeping up on cleaning/waxing those pieces. It`s hard enough finding time to wash.let dry, then wax the body on my trucks.
I`ve been building/customizing bikes for many years.I`ve seen everything chromed on those.I`ve de-chromes parts just to make the motor stand out.The more you put on.the less you see after a point.I also run into needing to wax areas that tend to get oilly.wax and oil don`t mix.I look under a hood I like to see a dressed motor. But,huge chrome areas surrounding the motor takes the focus away from the motor.I think black makes an excellent background to what you want to see when you open a hood.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
I have been shooting the road side of inner fenders with GatorHyde bed liner material. Works great, no chipping and less road noise.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
I have been thinking about getting them. I guess if you keep them clean they would last.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
This truck has the chrome fenders on it. The bottom side is painted to match the rest of the truck, but the engine bay is finished in chrome. You can see the finish is really pretty darn good. The fenders came from LMC--since he lives not far from the warehouse.

The guy only has about $120,000 in the truck. That is him standing behind it in the second picture (bibs and all)

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
I remember talking with him a few years back just after the truck was finished. Not to sound mean, but he didn't know a lot about it... He did however put in some very nice details (gas filler [totally awesome!!!], fuel injected, air ride...) The truck even got magazine coverage!

You are absolutely right, he has little background knowledge of the build, but the shop that did the work is one of the best in the midwest. The nice thing about it, he makes enough money to let someone that knows how do the work. There are a few things that I would have gone further on it, but that was his choice. God bless overtime!!!!! |

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
Just recieved my new issue of LMC in the mail a couple of days ago. They have those chrome inner fenders listed on page 110 at $179.95 plus $125.00 freight charge per inner fender making them $809.90 before tax for the pair. He must have thought the $179.95 was for the pair and missed the $250.00 freight charge.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
Maintaining the chrome is not as hard as one would think it is. The chrome under the hood of this Camaro has been there for 5 years and this guy drives this car a lot. I have followed him across country 3 times in the Hot Rod Power Tour. The price of the fenders at LLMC are at $179.00 each, and that price is the most recent. The cost of steel (no matter where it comes from) and the chroming process has gone up over the last year. However, that price is not bad at all.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
LMC only charges the truck frieght charge per order not per item.. the total of these would be $484.90. but if you spend over a grand its free. so buy it all in one shot.

Re: Lmc Chrome inner fenders.
I live down the road from them and I also get a Truck club discount (OVER THEN COUNTER ONLY), so it is a definite plus at times.
A way you could make out better here, is to get in good with a body shop or restoration bsuiness and get them to purchase the items, their prices are lower that way. Just a thought....but it works. |
