Post Rust Spot Questions

I just noticed my truck (71 C10) has pin
hole rust spot on the P-Side cab conner.
what's the best way to stop the rust. I do this I need to put a entire patch panel
over the small area do I? I also have a rust
hole about the 1/2 the size of a dollar(I guess It's from the acid in the battery).
on the P-Side front fender. This requires a
patch panel right?

Patch panels are the only true fix. Unless it's a show truck, I'd bondo over it and cover it with paint. As long as you kill the rust first, it will last a couple years. Tiger hair is great for patching small holes.

For the pinhole in the cab corner, try to push a screw driver in the hole and see if there's more rust, you might be surprised... if it's not too bad, you can mig weld the hole shut.

The fender rust will require a patch panel to be done right... if it's only half the size of a dollar, you could probably make one yourself...

Might try pushing the rust area in a bit, soaking both the inner and outer area with POR15, then just cover it with bondo. Worked for me for 5 years so far. The only area this didn't work on was the little "pockets" on the bottom of the door corners where you can't get the POR 15 into the rust as it is actually inclosed within the two layers of metal. Good luck

Huck, Say the POR15 in the door corners didn't hold? I'm trying to do this to my doors now. They both have quarter/half dollor sized rust. I have POR15'ed from inside and out, and will use tiger hair fiberglass repair (this stuff is tough) then, silicone the inside seam (thru the corners)to keep moisture from entering from inside the door. Did you do anything to keep water from getting back in to the corners when you repaired your doors?
