235 engine problem
hey guys,
i have a 1955 chevy truck with the stock straight six. i did some basic overhauling on it when it was purchased a few months ago and got it to run quite smoothly. it sounds like my grandma's sewing machine. my problem is when it is warm and has been driven around some, it won't start sometimes. i have done the following,: new battery, new wires, plugs, cap , rebuilt rochester carb, new seals on all manifolds, rebuilt starter, rebuilt generator. i am trying to figure out what i have missed. it could be a combo of weak spark and fuel problems, but they both work 80% of the time. no vacuum leaks and all new wiring up to the coil. huh???? any help............ |

Re: 235 engine problem
by doesn't start, what do you mean? does it crank, but not fire? what about if you spray some starting fluid down the carb first? what distributor are you using, the stock one? did you change the points and condenser?

Re: 235 engine problem
Not sure if it applies here, but I've heard of some carbed vehicles getting vapor lock when they get warm. Never experienced it 1st hand as all of my vehicles are injected. Just a thought?

Re: 235 engine problem
from what you have described "vapor lock" comes to mind. good ole' wooden clothes pins on the fuel line to act as a heat sink. if its "hard turning over when it's hot "starter solenoid" could be the culprit, get your ampmeter out and do a test on starter and see what the amp draw is. good luck.
