Factory color truck photos

I am thinking about painting my truck back to a factory color. I found some using the search from “Factorystock” and “lilred66” but I figured getting as many as possible in one thread would be helpful..

The list I have for 66 are:

Dark Green
Light Green
Dark Blue
Light Blue
Turquoise
Silver poly
Gray
Dark Aqua Poly
Black
Saddle poly
Ivory
White
Yellow
Orange
Red

Let’s see what we can come up with…

Re: Factory color truck photos

Here's mine, was repainted somewhere along the line in the original color. Looking at your list I would probably call this ivory.

In the fall I plan to have it ready for a flat color of some sort, probably either copper or green metallic.

Re: Factory color truck photos

Here is one I found from "Factorystock":

"The trim plate says it was originally painted fawn on the exterior. This is not the same as the interior metalic fawn gold color all trucks were painted. The fawn color was a beige-tan and was used one year only between 64-66.Also, yellow and maroon were 1965 one year only colors, and not used in 64 or 66."

Re: Factory color truck photos

Here is a rarely seen yellow and a more common turquoise.Note, all trucks were painted black behind grill and were given a white stripe around the grill surround to give detail and depth to front end.

Re: Factory color truck photos

so far so good, I only have the 66 list so I don't know what other colors are on other years. Anyone know the special 1 or 2 year colors?

Not sure if all these colors existed but the 66 colors we are still looking for:
Dark Green
Dark Blue
Light Blue
Silver poly
Gray
Dark Aqua Poly
Saddle poly
Orange
Red

I love that baby blue 4x4. Though my truck was originally the light green, BB is the next color for mine!

Re: Factory color truck photos

My avatar ( car carrier ) shows a saddle pickup on front bottom, dark blue on front top, maybe a dark aqua behind it. Every year from 60-66, had a unique color, many were metalics, that are rarely seen today. I recommend purchasing a paint chip sheet that covers 60-66 trucks, to see all the great colors that were available back in the day.

Re: Factory color truck photos

Many of the colors offered were changed slightly in shades from 60-66. The 1961 yellow is a different shade than the 1965 yellow. This is true for the maroon of 1961 and the maroon of 1965.The "tampico turquoise" of 1961 changed slightly to "crystal turquoise" of 1962 thru 1963. Then this color changed slightly agian to "turquoise" of 64-66.The "desert beige" of 62-63 was slightly changed for the "fawn" of 1965.A paint chip chart will clearly show this. The most common colors would be the light greens, light blues, reds, and whites. Every year had a unique metallic color that was very rare. In 1961, I would say "tahiti coral", In 1962, "seamist jade". In 1963, "crystal turquoise", In 1964, "coppertone" and "gray-green" In 1965, "maroon", In 1966, "dark aqua" and "silver".To bring back the nostaglia of the era, I think it is important to bring back the colors of the era too. Here is the tutone versions of the maroon and gray.

Great shots of the 1962 GMC 4X4 Special-k. It looks 100% period correct. GMC had some unique colors and tutones that were not offered by Chevy.

My 62 is (was) seamist jade. At least it would appear so in the few areas where I can see what looks to be original color.

Any idea how to get this color and not pay a billion dollars for it?

Great point. Do you have any photos of the special colors? Personally I am looking for the "Dark Aqua" or "Silver" (as my truck is a 66), but I think this thread is becoming a great reference for anyone looking for how the stock colors looked on the truck.

Thanks all for digging up those old photos!

I`ve know that guy for quite a few years. He`s all about this series of GM trucks and does them pretty much stock. He was pulling off from my spot after buying an a/c set-up for that truck.I went crazy over that thing and practically gave the stuff to him,.He ran that thing down a couple few hundred miles to Carlisle,PA from upstate NY.

Other than the white primer, I believe this to be factory paint.
