Shipping company west coast to east coast
I was wondering what shipping company anyone would recommend. I have found a truck in Washington State that I am interested in. I did a search on this topic as I know it's been discussed before.
Any leads would be great. Thanks, Ray

Re: Shipping company west coast to east coast
I just did that, almost exactly. California to NC. I used one of those online booking services, and found that (as usual) they contracted another company to actually ship the truck.
When I picked up my truck, about a mile away from my house, I talked to the driver, who I found out lives no more than 5 miles away from me in Clayton, NC. He had actually gotten the truck "home" on Sunday, but because of the Memorial Day weekend, didn't contact me until Tuesday. To the best of my knowledge the truck came off the rack looking alright; it was extremely dirty, but that's not a big surprise. The previous owners, at pickup, didn't sign a damage disclosure, so if there was any damage done (the chrome has a few dings on it up front, for instance, and the front bumper is slightly askew as if somebody hit something) I can't tell if it was done by the shipper or not. In any event, after talking to the guy, he told me to contact them directly next time, as it'd save me probably a couple of hundred dollars, and he says he runs out to the West Coast often. http://www.leosautomotivetransport.c...ansporting.htm That's Leo's Auto Transport's website, take a look for yourself. In all fairness, I did a google search on Leo's to get that site, and the first thing I saw was this: http://www.complaintsboard.com/compl...es-c28682.html That's the only complaint I saw anywhere, though. I know one thing, if I *do* have a shipper get a car for me again, I'm going to try to go with an actual company who owns and runs their own trucks, not some agency who posts the shipment somewhere and waits for some actual company to pick it up. It took this "contractor" company weeks past the day I signed up with them, when they said it'd take up to 7 days only. I also had to pay them an extra $100 to "sweeten the deal" just to get somebody (Leo's, in the end) to pick up the truck. If you're paying a fortune for the truck and it's truly nice, I'd probably suggest going with an enclosed trailer (extremely expensive,) or even hauling it yourself, just to avoid 3k miles of dirt, nastiness, and potential damage to it. Good luck!

Re: Shipping company west coast to east coast
I agree with Werewolf owner operators are best if you can find one.
However I had my Burb shipped from Rexburgh Idaho to Louisville back last August. I used www.Iship.com it's a posting baord. I had called around and had and Idea what it was going to cost. I had my truck picked up by a company doing a back haul out of Washinton to Pittsburgh. Original contract was for $1100. door to door single trailer and only my truck. It arrived fine Dirty as well but in good shape. Because the carrier missed the first pickup date, had some trailer problems the next week. We renegotiated the price and it was moved across the country for $700.00. On the board I mentioned you post what your looking for and you have the option to accept or decline offers that are given to you. I hope this helps... good luck with your move... |

I used an independent recommended by an A.Z junkyard.I bought a nice long bed floor for $200. and this guy quoted price to bring it to Md for another $ 200.he has a cell phone, I could call him anytime, he arrived when he said he would and even changed his route to take the floor straight to a body shop in Pa. for media blasting. His name is Gary and the cell # is:603-512-5481.

Re: Shipping company west coast to east coast
for sure, drive it home!
i did this from Chico CA to NYC a couple years ago. I picked the truck ('70) up on X-mas eve, and proceeded to drive directly across the country. bennefits: 1. you will have an immediate bond with your new truck 2. you'll find out exactly how innadequate the previous owner was, when you have to drop a couple thousand dollars somewhere in utah because he cut a couple corners once. but you'll also be assured of the sound mechanic ability of your truck when you finally drive out of utah... this is just specualtion, of course!! 3. chicks MIGHT dig it... depends on the chick. my chick, for example, almost got left in utah HOWEVER, in her defense, the AM/FM didn't work in that truck! Cons: 1. for same price as shipping, you also have to take time off of work. 2. gas prices will probably chew you up worse than ever. 3. you might leave your girl in utah. i did this again in february of this year, and took a train to MD from NY and picked up another truck ('69 i do seriously reccomend it.

Re: Shipping company west coast to east coast
heh heh heh
pro's friends think you are nuts! Do it alone and you won't have to spend money on a hotel. Mine was from the Seattle area to Columbus Ohio, took the slightly longer route down to Denver and across to ohio. |

Re: Shipping company west coast to east coast
Soba 03, I thought I was doing something wrong lol. I'll check it out.
As far as driving it back,it's about a 37 hour ride 2500 miles,so roughly estimating it at 10 miles/a gallon (it's a 4x4) that alone is a $1000 @ $4.00 a gal./plus air fare, food etc. It wouldn't be any cheaper, but would be exciting. I would be up for a road trip but i'm not sure I want to tackle this one alone I have a couple number's i'm checking into. thanks, Ray
