Re: Interior Modifications

Oh, I will visit all the pawn shops tonight. Nakamichi is not a common name around these parts. Especially missing the remote, chassis, and trim ring like this one will be.

Re: Interior Modifications

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope Karma kicks those guys in the n***.
My truck was broken into a few years back. They obviously weren't experienced. First they tried to use a screwdriver to pry along the bottom of the window, scratching the paint all up. When they realized this wouldn't open the window, they just broke it out. They stole the faceplate to my radio and nothing else. They left their screwdriver in my floorboard. I guess they got scared off. Funny thing was, there were about 30 CDs (in their cases) and $50 in the truck. It sat there all weekend like that (I was out of town). Came back to find a card on my truck from the local PD. Basically said, "We came by and your truck was broken into." O RLY?!

Re: Interior Modifications

Did they make any window mods? It sux that you cant have anything anymore. I think this is one of the reasons I didnt cut my dash to put in my Pioneer.

Re: Interior Modifications

Well, it is not hard to get inside my truck. The vent window latch is broke, and the door lock is hard to operate so it gets left unlocked a lot. My driveway is well lit up. They must of known what they were looking for, because my truck does not look like it should have any kind of system, and the Nakamichi head unit is not flashy at all. Kinda looked like a cheapy replacement. But that is why I liked it so much. The simple clean design seems to fit the truck so nicely, and the sound was great.

Re: Interior Modifications

You need a flasher, a relay, and a switch.

Wire up the flasher to "flash" the horn when the switch is on and the dome light comes on. I think they refer to that relay as a single pole, double throw relay. Anyways you need one that when it gets two input signals it trips the contact in the relay.

At night when you last get out of the truck, leave both vent windows unlatched and arm the system (turn the switch on).

The puke that steals stuff walks along, sees your vent unlatched, pops it open, reaches in and rolls down the window. Open the door.

HONK - HONK - HONK - HONK - HONK - HONK - HONK

The puke $#!+s his pants and takes off running. Your truck is left there, stereo still installed, no vent broken, you just have to go out, turn it off, and re-arm the system.

I didn't install this setup, I moved out of the city. My dad wired up a similar system on his cars. Every one of them had at least one attempt that was saved by the horn - and he lives in a "good" neighborhood. He parks in an alley. One time there were tools on roofs of two of the neighbors cars back there when the horn went off.

Re: Interior Modifications

I like it, the poor man's car alarm. You could even take a micro switch and attach it to the lock mechanism so it would arm automatically when the doors were locked. Of course I don't have the jamb switches in....yet, so I would have to get that done.
