GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
Have a chance to pickup a set of Goodyear "front runners" for a good price.... only 4 passes on them. Wondering if the will be OK for my C10 .... or should I wait for a "taller set"????
They are: 23.0 x 5.0 x 15 I know they make these tires for a good reason ....

Re: GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
23's are short,, REAL short, reaction times and roll-out will be pretty darn quick. Heck I am running 26's on my chevy II and they barely fill the wheelwell. Myself, I'd thnk the 23'" tire would look silly on anything but an open wheel altered. But that's just my 2cents

Re: GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
The Front Runner tires are a definate drag only tire. For a cheaper alternative, go to your local tire shop or online tire store and find a 185/65/15. We've been running these with good luck and bought them locally for $60 a piece. I wouldn't consider running anything less than a 27" tall tire.....

Re: GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
Only thing I'll add about the passenger tire,, check the speed rating if your going to be running seriously fast. Most passenger tires are only rated for 86MPH. You do not want to be doing 120+ and have a $35 tire come apart on you

Will keep looking for "taller" front runners, Moroso or Mickey Thompson drag front tires..... still PLENTY of swap meets to go to this season. BTW.... got a solid lead on a 400 turbo with 3800 stall setup for drag racing & also a "narrowed" 9" F**d rearend with Summers axles.

Re: GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
Just to clarify,, I wasn't trying to say all passenger tires are are rated at only highway speeds, but there are more than just a few that are,, and more than a few are Z rated. Just be cautious and check the speed rating if you do use a standard passenger tire.

Good point, the ones I have are rated to 120......Which is what it was running with the old motor. Hopefully, the next bullet will push it a little faster.

Re: GOODYEAR "Front Runners" ?????
Here is the breakdown on speed ratings for passenger tires.
Keep in mind that some tires have a "P" in front of the size; this is not the speed rating! Also others have it included in the service index which is typically just past the tire size and will look like "92H". The letter is the speed rating, the numbers are the load index. Speed ratings are based on indoor wheel test with the tire at max psi and load. J = 62 mph K = 68 mph L = 75 mph M - 81 mph N = 87 mph P = 93 mph Q = 99 mph R = 106 mph S = 112 mph T = 118 mph U = 124 mph H = 130 mph V = 149 mph W = 168 mph Y = 186 mph Z = 150+ mph J through Q are typically assigned to large truck tires. Hope this helps. Last edited by blackedoutharley; 06-14-2008 at 12:17 AM. |
