How many miles before a suspension rebuild?

My c10 has 94000 miles. Front and rear suspension all original. Upper control arms still have riveted balljoints. Truck starting to feel a little loose but still handles better than my car with a skinies on it. Lower balljoints have play in them. How many miles before a suspension rebuild on these old trucks?

Re: How many miles before a suspension rebuild?

I'd say it depends on the owners maintenance habits. 94K is a lot of miles,so just check everything. If it's out of spec, replace. My truck has 170K and all it's had is one ball joint, but I need to check it again soon.

Do it now...any movement of the ball joints indicates wear. If you wait and one goes out on the freeway it won't be good for the truck or you.

Yeah, ^^^ if it is loose enough that you know it, it's time to replace.

I will replace it. I would rather pull and redo motor, trans or rear. I never liked suspension work.

Re: How many miles before a suspension rebuild?

Its easy. A grinder to take off the heads of the ball joint rivets...ball joint pickle fork. Take the nut off...no problem.

Re: How many miles before a suspension rebuild?

IMO, if you can tell there is wear, it's past time to do it...

I don't know how many miles my 'burb had on it when I did it's suspension, but it needed replaced long before I bought it!
