Anyone have pics of TPI motors in our trucks?

I am about to swap over to TPI [like the Z28's had in the 80's and 90's]. I want to see what it will look like in the old truck's bay....anyone have a pic or two?

Just a pipe dream.

Kelly most say these tpi engines are torque monsters below 4500 rpm or so. It should make for a good upgrade to yours. There was a complete unit with harness for sale a while back in the parts for sale section for $450 or so. I should have bought it I know. I think it was 2 many toys's ad.
Have you bought one already?

Not yet, but I am low on cash right now...I'll be looking in a month or so. I'll be mounting it on my 355 which is only 7k old...should be a great addition!

Could you elaborate a little more? I keep reading that the tpi's are torquey so they should work well in a truck. You dont like yours though by the sound of it...

Re: Anyone have pics of TPI motors in our trucks?

I installed the 1 piece intake runners, comp cams compu-cam in it, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and street and performance burnt a chip for it... I have a munci behind it with 3:73's in the rear... It just doesn't impress me at all... It just doesnt seem to make much power.. Don't get me wrong... I love that it fires right up, is good on fuel and is reliable as anything.. I have been wanting to spend some time trying to maybe figure out if it is a computer issue or if I am just expecting too much... My problem is just that I drive really fast cars often....

Ha, Life is rough, eh?....

Hows the motor down low? Is it ok off the line and just not enough for you once you get rolling?

Its a dog out of the hole too!! I am running a muncie m20 wide ratio though... I have a M22 on the shelf I may toss in and see if that make a difference on the low end... I dont think the tall tire helps either...

I am the service manager at a BMW, Porsche and Audi dealer.. We build a lot of track cars and there is always something fun here that needs tuned... This morning I was thrashing a new BMW M5.. 500 hp from the factory... We gave it a little extra umph with some software upgrades.. Tough job sometimes!

Re: Anyone have pics of TPI motors in our trucks?

Oh that sounds like a fun job. I got passed on the way into work by a new S5 last week and it made me jealous. Such a pretty car.
Back to the Tpi - I had been considering one for cheap EFi swap and the idea of low end torque and not worrying about the top end seemed fine for a weekend hauler/cruiser which is what I'm looking to build next. Maybe i should just quit being half-assed and go for the LS1 I've always wanted.

Compared to this, it would be a dog.

Check out this website. They have some interesting upgrades and can add a little zing to your TPI.

Thanks for the pics guys. Looks like my choice got made for me. My friend has a TPI setup like yours CF. While they both look good I think this runner style wins for me.

So next step is to get it on the truck. I am waiting to find out if he's got the whole parts list.

Re: Anyone have pics of TPI motors in our trucks?

Here are a few pics of my install. I put this 87 motor in the truck back in 89. I love it. 305 HO with 700-R4 trans with 4 core and coolier. Have the torque switch on the dash so if I pull something I can leave it unlocked. I made the cold air box out of a caddy box with 2 90 from lowes. Sucks 4" of air in front of the radator. Street & performance did the chip for me since I'm running a Ferio V-6 computer on it. (old school) It runs good and get's 18MPG on the road.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
