Tailgate trim options

Can anyone tell me what trucks/trim levels got the piece of lower tailgate trim for 69-72?

The small chrome strip at the bottom? I know the CSTs and Cheyennes got the wide band, but I haven't seen many with the small chrome strip.

Re: Tailgate trim options

I bought a tailgate with this trim:

It looks to be original paint and it doesn't appear to have ever had the center band?

Was this used on CST/Cheyennes or is it maybe a 67/68 CST tailagate?

Re: Tailgate trim options

It is used only on 69-72's with the upper and lower moulding option ordered and with or without the deluxe tutone paint on the base model Custom and Custom Deluxe. With the Cheyenne, CST, or Cheyenne Super model, the wide tailgate band was part of the trim pkg and they left the narrow bottom strip off. But I have seen a true factory tutone paint Cheyenne truck with this installed with the wide band and assumed it was a factory error.

Re: Tailgate trim options

I believe the only way to get the upper, woodgrain band, and lower was a cst blazer only. Just the upper and lower could be had on a 70 c-10 as long as the trim was orderd.

Re: Tailgate trim options

My '69 Beater truck came with it, but its gone now. I always thought all '69 - up trucks with tail light trim got it, but maybe I'm wrong. All of mine do including a '71 Cheyenne and a '69 CST that I have.

Re: Tailgate trim options

I stand corrected. I went out and double checked that '69 CST and it does not have it. It had the tailgate band and lower trim. It was not a two tone truck, but it does have factory paint so I know it came that way. You learn something everyday, I guess!

Looks great Kev. I bet even diehard truck people would miss that at first glance.

When they start looking for the handle to open the gate, they'll get the joke.
Nice mod, looks pretty cool.

Re: Tailgate trim options

so the answer is that the first picture is wrong because the bottom trim is with the band then? I have a NOS band for sale and someone was asking the same questions that this thread had...

Rokcrln, that is sweat... great idea...
