Split Drive Shaft?
did chevy use a split drive shaft in a 75 half ton v8? I have one in one I just picked up, never remember seeing one in a 70s or newer truck. Wayne

Well, my 1975 Gentleman Jim 350 / Th350 has one.
I'm pretty sure they were common in the long beds. |

alot of them do, mostly heavy halfs and only 3/4 and 1 tons did, ive had quite a few 73-81's with two piecers including but not limited to:
76 GMC 1500 th350 350 81 3/4 ton 2wd 350 4 speed 74 3/4 ton 454 th400 76 3/4 ton 454 th350 had a 78 Big10 th350 350 that had more GVW than a regular 1/23 ton and it only had a 72" one piecer in it. vans used two piecers even though most vans had short wheelbase. and, also 67-72 didnt only use two piece shafts, alot of them had one piecers its the drivetrain and series of truck that determined what driveshaft style it got, not the year |

I thought it was a deal with length. When a driveshaft gets to be longer than a certain length, they make it a two piece with a carrier beaing.
Having said that, when I took out my 1/2 ton rear end and installed a 1 ton rearend I upgraded to a 3.5" thick wall 1350 driveshaft. Mind you, this is on a longbed pickup. Some of the local driveshaft shops told me it would be too long to have a 1 piece and that it needed to be the carrier bearing design, but it's worked great.
