700R4 tranny question
I just made a deal to pick up a 700r4 trans out of a 86 with a 305 caprice to put in my 67 1/2 ton long bed with a 3:73 rear end. Ok now since this is my first install of an o/d tranny, when I pull this thing out its doner veh. what else should I take to be able to install it to a HEI 350 4 bolt. (currently has a turbo 350 now)
Also I picked it up for 200.00 it sounded like a great deal to me and with todays gas prices. . . .

Im no expert and Im sure someone who knows more will chime in but I know you will need the proper carb bracketry to hook up the cable to.TH350 shifts down on the cable,700R4 shifts up on throttle position.

What do you have now on that 67? I converted my 69 six to 350/350 and had to install the column from an automatic, cross member for the back of the trans, shift linkage, carb bracket for down shift cable, radiator with automatic cooling. Lot of things. I may have left out some.
I'm also wanting to go with a 700R4 but still looking for a good price like you got. |

Make sure you take the plug with a few inches of wire with you from the car thats pluged into the tranny. Its a 4 or 6 prong plug with half as many wires in it. Take the yoke from the drive shaft with you if you can. Turbo 350 one will fit the 700R4 but it makes a goog plug to keep the fluid from running out the back. You may have to shorten the drive shaft if your TH350 is a short tail. If its a long tail TH350 then its the same length as the 700R4. You will have to move the crossmember back towards the rear axle as well but should have holes in the frame for that. Also take the kick down cable from the doner car if you can. Dip stick also.

68GMsee: Right now its a 350/350 combo. long tail tranny, with a b+m sport shift floor shift. ratpack: Hopefully my existing drive line will fit as the guy wants another 25 for the driveline with yoke. but good idea for the wiring, any other electricals I`ll need? Old chevy guy: I didnt even think of the carb linkage, I guess I assumed my old linkage would be good. thank for the heads up

The throttle cable is very criticle on this trans. Log on to bowtie overdrives. TV made easy.
