anyone ever made a custom insert?

I picked one up at the junkyard, but the blue inset was missing....
was thinking about cutting a plasticinsert, then covering is with some blue reflective/fresnel lense outdoor vinyl I have...

you can see it on top of the pile of tailgate parts at the bottom of my junkyard finds pic...

Good idea. It might work. You could use plexiglas and then insert some medium blue theatrical "gel" behind that.
I got some doghouse parts from a friend who was cleaning out his yard. All I had to do was fit 2 fenders, 2 fender skirts, 3 doors, a hood, radiator support, cowl, glovebox door and some other stuff into my stepside shortbed and run from Phoenix to Tucson -- 90 miles on the freeway. Included was the hood emblem. Most of the parts were for a '72, but I guess the hood was a '69 or '70 since it's drilled for a bowtie.
I had the bright idea of putting some kind of low wattage LEDs behind the blue plastic. The OEM silver backing has pretty much flaked off.
Ultimate project is a '72 Chevy K/5 rolling frame I bought 6 years ago. I have a 292 and Rockwell T-221/SM465 I intend for it.
My other Chevy trucks have the red bow tie -- all metal. Chevy Engine Orange would look good on those after polishing up the chrome.

Years ago on my 70 I had put a dash light behind my hood emblem. I had taken all the silver off the back off it. It looked cool.
