Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Bought a project truck last winter and it has all new window felts, rubber, etc. in the cab - and especially the doors.

It is very difficult to roll the windows up or down...as in feels like it will break the regulator (or the glass)

I took off the door panel and sprayed the track down with White Lithium Grease - no luck...didn't change a thing. Not sure where it is sticking - appears to be the vertical track that the windows slide down/up (not the horizontal track the arms slide across)

Anybody have any tips/tricks to get these things rolling down a little better - instead of looking for older, beat up doors.

Thx!

Most time the problem that you are discribing turns out to be the division bar felts. As the window gets rolled up the felt slides up with the window inside the track and pinches the glass and sill. That is where I would start. WES

I had the same problem.I used some silicone spray lube(ever play Foosball?) on the felts and could not believe the difference.I also had problems with my Dodge Dakota power windows.I thought the morotr was going.Same thing solved that too.

I agree with the Silicone spray also...

I did the same on my truck. Put new felt and rubber kit. Sprayed with silicone and I also used WD40 on all the pivot points of the window regulator asm.

Lithium grease is okay for lubing sliding surfaces where the grease can be worked in, but the joints in those window regulators are pretty tight. WD40 penetrates the tighter areas.

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Did you guys spray all the felts (pictured below) with silicone spay or just some of them?

Making a pit stop on the way home to pick some up...I may just use PB Blaster on the arms since I have that at home (instead of WD40).

Thanks for the response!

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Silicone spray lube will only work if your weather-strip isn't coming loose from the channel and will only be temporary at best. The only place it will help is if you spray it in the division bar felt. That is the only felt besides the squeegee and fuzzies that stays in contact with the glass and sash at all times. The division bar is track designed to keep your window from moving around on the wheels, or flopping back and forth in the window gap. It should be against the glass but not so snug that it holds onto the window or sash. Is the division bar felt new? WES

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Not sure - I bought it the way it sits now...PO told me that the doors were rebuilt - felts, rubber and seals - not sure if they got to the division bar felt - but I would gather that they did - I will give that a spary when I get home tonight.

Is there even a way to install that felt wrong so that it binds on the glass? I would guess not - but you never know.

The guy I bought the truck from had it in his garage for some time before he conceded that he didn't have the funds/time to finish it up.

Thanks.

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Pretty hard to install it wrong. If the window rolls up so hard that it feels like it will brake the regulator, then all the silicone spray in the world will not help you. Either the felt has torn loose like I said and is pinching the glass and sash, or the window regulator is broken. WES

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

I had the same problem with mine after i put new rubber and felt in. It was the division bar. I loosened the screws at the bottom of the bar *the two at the bottom of the puple line* and pushed it forward about 1/8 inch. That fixed it. It was just too tight.

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

correct. Loosen those two screws, and the 3 along the top front of the door that hold in the vent window, 3 smalle flat head screws.

Roll the window up and down, and that should give it the slack it need. Then while the window was down, i just tightened everything back up where it is.

You might have to move the braket for the window channel a bit as well *green line*.

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

I used the WD40 on all the pivot points. Soaked it in pretty good as I worked the window up and down.

Surprisingly enough, I don't care for PB blaster that much. Everyone was raving about it so I bought a couple of cans. I've used it on some of the rusted bolts and nuts and it wasn't any better than penetrating oil or spray oil -at least from my viewpoint.

Re: Windows don't up roll up/down easy - need input please

Mine are/were hard to get up and down as well...I promise you it aint the felts since they are gone!!! My problem was that the "sprocket" on the regulator and/or the "gear" are just flat wore out. I replaced the driver's side and it works like a dream even without the felts. I didn't realize the same problem existed on the passenger until yesterday.

Side note...PB Blaster STINKS!!! Literally it smells like ... well my nephew calls it Panther Pi$$ for a reason.
