Finally installed my overflow tank - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I bought a black JAZ coolant overflow tank from my local speed shop for $19.95 and 4 feet of hose for $3.25

I drilled a 1/2" hole in the upper corner of my core support to rout the hose from the radiator to the overflow tank. The grill center support bracket has a factory drilled hole that I used to rout the other end of the hole thru to the tank. I had to drill 2 holes for the machine screws to attach the tank to the grill support. Only 3 holes drilled

The tank has a drain valve and blends in behind the grille really nice. The flash makes it look more pronounced than what it really is. I'm glad to finally get rid of the stock type hose that would occassionally puke fluid on the garage floor after a long ride. Here's a few pics of this easy and cheap mod

I guess I should have looked around a little more. I went to Lowes and got some black pipe and caps to build mine. Cost about $12.

It's not completely finished since I have to paint the red holder from a fire extinquisher black and rerout the hose. I glued the bottom cap but not the top cap. It just fits snug. I can remove the whole thing to clean if I have to.

Not at all...

I had looked around locally and all I could find was the ugly square plastic bottle that I couldn't get to fit anywhere but the fender well. I had an old fire extinguisher bottle and I rigged up the clamp to work on the tube. A couple of metal screw type clamps could also work.

No problem at all 68gmsee. There was a overflow thread awhile back I posted in and said I would post pics when I finished but I got real busy so today I posted them in case somebody was interested.

did you replace the rad cap with one that allows the fluid to be sucked back into the rad when the thing cools down?

On my system I did not. I looked online but couldn't find a cap for my application that did that. My recovery tank has a petcock on the bottom with a release hose but no way of sucking it back to the radiator. It's rare that mine pukes but at least the tank will catch it. Do you know where I can get one?

I have the same overflow jug on my blazer. I got the one with return hose instead of the drain valve,... so the fluid is recovered back to the radiator.

Re: caps. Local auto parts (Auto Zone in my case) have them. I think I paid $5-6 for mine. It's a 13lb cap since I don't have a/c and its a six.
