Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
I have been trying to find a 67-72 truck for some time now, thinking of big block swaps and shortbed conversions, and I think I found the perfect target. What do you think?
Its a 1970 C20 so I don't feel bad about cutting it up. (Just makes me feel better.) It has a 402 (did they ever come with a powerglide?) It's in good shape, only one scuff in the paint, surface rust in the bed, but now has a camper on it. (I seem to get lucky with trucks with campers) Mostly stock, A/C works and blows cold, electricals arent hacked up, power drum brakes. Haven't seen the interior, but does $4000 sound fair for this truck as long as the interior is in great shape? I will try to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thanks, Jared

Its going to be a bit of a slow project, so it will probably be driven dd for a while before I can get everything I need together. It has a BBC, already, Its a bit pricy, but since its all working and No body work is needed, I figure it is kind of worth it.

For that price I can get you 2 running 402 bb 3/4 ton trucks here in Idaho., Good luck though, I guess that it all depends on perspective and how little cab work there is to do.

100% rust free except for the surface rust in the bed.

I'm also in Sacramento, trucks arnt to cheap around here.
But that does seem steep. i paid 6500 for an all original 1 owner truck with all documentation no rust short bed. and its the original paint..... pic before i started modding......

Doesn't seem that bad to me with working air and a BB that runs fine...especially since the body needs no work.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
Im in the area too....seems a bit high when you have to hack the frame up to get what you want...and a bed isnt cheap..
have you checked the bay area ads? I found min in Sonoma and there's another one in Santa Rosa that pops up every so often for like 5k....but it's already fixed up... I bought my 67 with a BRAND NEW ZZ4 mtr for $4500. |

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
What do you think would be a "fair" price for it? They have had people come by, and It saves me time getting everything that would be needed for a bigblock swap. What do you think I should offer?

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
It is a nice truck. 4K may seem a tad high, BUT if you have round up all the big block stuff, A/C stuff and good sheetmetal (which it seems like this truck has a good body), you can easily spend 4K on parts alone. If the truck is everything you besides being a SWB, I think it would not be a terrible deal. You'd be hard pressed to find a big block SWB in that condition for double the price unless you got real lucky.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
Thats what I was thinking, it would most likely save me alot of time and money to try to put a bigblock into a shortbed with just a small block in it, but now I have to figure something out, I'm in a bit of a bind, I found a nice 64 1/2 mustang with a 289 for 3k and a Plymouth Duster for sale. Stuck between all three of these awesome cars. Gonna be a tough decision.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
well, if I go see this truck, and its good enough for me, I think I'm going to go for it. Probably offer more or less around the 4k range, but to me it seems worth it with working a/c, all of the bbc parts already there, and nothing to worry about except getting around to the frame when I get the chance. It's not like I'm in a hurry to cut the frame. I'm driving a lwb right now, and they kind of grow on you. But a better turning radius would be alright with me
I have it set up to check it out on tuesday, so I will try to get pictures then of everything. Hopefully it is what they say it is.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
This truck is in AMAZING condition, Newer paint a bit more metalic and darker than original, but matches, dash isn't cut, new upholstry, but was pulled a little too tight theads are stretched a tiny bit. Engine was rebuilt runs strong, transmission was completely run through. In the shop trying to fix the ignition right now, but nothing big, just crossed wires. New glass, and there is one small scrape in the paint. Does 4k sound like a fair price?
It seems easier for me to cut the frame than to try to piece to gether all of the BBC parts and try to find a working A/C for a BBC. Nothing will happen anytime too soon, but I hopefully will have it "done" someday. As for the meeting tomorrow not going to work, so you will have to wait a little longer for pictures. Anyone need a camper shell?

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
Not yet, but if everything clears up. (its in the shop for rewiring, and the owner is a flight attendant, so crazy schedules) I just need to get out there, and bring the money. Doubt there will be any surprises. And I'm just happy that the A/C works, Its starting to warm up here. Shooting for a new record this year (seems like were gonna be shooting for 115!)
The more I see of this truck, the more it seems like a better and better buy.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
If its that nice, I'd go for it if the cut frame thing isn't an issue to you. The frames on both my '69 C-30 and my '69 C-30 have both been cut so it does not bother me. If they are done right, you will never have problem.

Re: Found a new truck, all it needs is a shortbed.
Thats what I was thinking, I personally don't have the experience to do it all by myself, and I don't have all of the necesary tools, but I do have friends at just about every shop around this area, from body shops to machine shops, to upholsterers, etc. So I figure if I one day get the "need" to cut it, I can get it done inexpensively, quick, and most importantly right.
