Hard Top Hoist
Has anyone found a hard top hoist that they like and works well for them? I have found one on the internet for about $400. Seems pricey but would save my back. My toy is going to temporarily be my daily driver so the ability to put the top on or take it off easier and by myself would be nice. thanks.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
Mine is non-mechanical, simple and cost me around $12. Best of all, I can remove and install the top by myself.
I've got pictures on my work computer, so I'll post some tomorrow.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
BobbyK and Bouncytruck were the 2 that came to mind.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
thank you to everyone for your response.
Bobby K - nice work, I wish I could weld. Might have a buddy who could hook me up. Great design and I think it might work in my garage. Thanks again.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
Mine is just some eye bolts into the ceiling with rope through them. One end of the rope is tied through a hole drilled into the ends of two 2x4's. Then I tie a loop in the other end of the rope. I can drive the truck into the garage, lift the front & back of the top and slide the 2x4 under it from inside the truck. Then get out and lift each corner running the loop over the end of the 2x4. This lifts the top off the bed and I can drive out under it. Total cost was under $12.
If I could weld and had a taller garage roof, I'd love to have the setup BobbyK has.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
I was thinking of doing something similar to bouncytruck, only I didn't feel comfortable leaving it hanging; my luck guarantees it falling and getting destroyed. I thought I would build a U-shaped stand that layed on the floor and wrapped around the back of the vehicle; then just prop it up with 2x4's and call it good.

Re: Hard Top Hoist
Look at the bottom of the first page of my build thread in my signature... im on vacation right now but i have more pics of it at home... the hoist is an 800 pound unit from harbor freight picked up on sale for $49...works excellently..

Re: Hard Top Hoist
Here's where I got the info on how to build it.
http://home.pacbell.net/jls-dls/RemoveTop.html I leave my top hanging without any problems. This year, I put it a little further back in the garage and ran the front 2 x 4 through the front windows so I can back the truck up under it and keep it in the garage too. It works just fine without any problems.
