Continued working out the bugs in the '87.

Started prepping the lowrider for paint next week.. going with Rat Rod Black from Eastwood.

Looking for a instrument panel solution too. Can't decide on DD through CAPTKAOS or maybe Covan's mechanical setup using the factory bezel.

Welcome to Kentucky... glad u got the pronunciation correct!!

It's actually pronounced Ken-tuuuuky. If you're driving... look me up when you come back to the west into Indiana. I'm not far away.

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

busy busy
busy
moved a month ago and finally am getting my shop in some kind of order
I can get some work done.
bought a 83 short bed fleetside black with burgundy interior a month ago
for $500 with no motor and have been trying to get to it
well with that in mind I've been driving by this 84 long bed fleetside for sale for about two months and the owner dropped the price so... had to look .
Rust everywhere but... runs like a top good brakes and suspension tranny shifts
like new, all original under the hood and best of all COLD AIR . so for another $500 it's mine too .
started tearing the short bed interior apart am going to use these two to make
one I'll figure the picture thing out and post some soon
here is the one that's getting fixed

ugly as its is its completely rust free

here is the donor truck completely rusty except the bed due the stlyish cap
and of course I 'll throw in one of my 82 it;'s a low miles original 87k mlies

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

I actually got the 74 registered (it expired in may). I took it out further than just around the block & visited my buddies out @ Stoked Out. I checked out the latest project progress & made arrangements for our trip to GoodGuys/Ohio.

Today I transferred the firewall templates onto steel patch panels for welding up the firewall on my 68.

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

Spent all week working on the firebird. I fixed the fender caused by the un insured arse and painted the whole car. I thought I had some pics on this computer but I guess not maybee dig some up in the morning. Went to the track friday with the freshly painted car and ran like crap. Started with low 16 second runs and it just got worse. The fuel filter got plugged and I attempted to flush it but it just ened up plugging the carb and I bearly made it home. Spent saturday doing family stuff with my fiance's family and this morning slapped a 770 Street avenger that was slated for the truck on the bird. Needs tweeked but runs great overall compared to the edelcrap.

Spent all weekend in Fresno at the Havoc show. Not a great weekend, and I probably won't go next year.

Prepped and painted a set of replacement door panels for my '80 that I found in a junkyard. They turned out pretty dang good. I spent an hour on my back under my buddies '86 putting on a sway bar off of a Camper Special.

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

Went to the junkyard and pick up the trim for around my grill ($6). WOW, i still can't believe how much more complete the truck looks with it.

Picked up a new air box with fresh air intake tube, it is about 2x the diameter of my old one and now the engine isn't sucking hot air from the engine compartment.

Still need to retard my timing...haven't been able to get my hands on a timing light. But i did put premium in last fill up and she is running like a dream with no pinging. So that has got to be my issue.

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

Last week I cleaned the truck up...

Entered it in a show and took 2nd place for trucks...

Also registered the truck in Texas with vintage plates. These were stamped in 1975 and I put 78 registration stickers on them. Fixed the horn first since it was dead so it passed inspection. I'm now running a front plate as well, but I like it since it's the vintage look and compliments the look of the truck. Here's the back plate, letters scrambled of course

Found a pair of rust free and nearly perfect doors from a 73 Jimmy for my 2wd Blazer project, that and I also scored a power tailgate. I got the lot for $100.00 which doesn't seem bad at all for this area.

Hope to actually get some real work done, but I have been training hard for a thru hike of the John Muir Trail in 4 weeks, and that has been keeping me busy

Re: WHat did you get done 6/29/08 edition

Finished up the door panels I got from the junkyard. The color is as close as I can ask from something off the shelf. I used the Camel color SEM ColorCoat. and some Bulldog adhesion promoter. While I was at it I put in new window felts. I put the existing door panel pads back on until I can get some new ones.

Impalamark, you have my truck! Your 1982 GMC Sierra is the EXACT same truck as I've got! I have never seen the same 2 tone ugly tan and uglier brown 2wd shortbed with the tan top until I saw those photos. What options do you have on yours? Mines a 1981 Sierra Grande.
