Header issues
got a call from my father-in-law today and the oem SBC motor mounts are interferring with the header install. I called Jim at Rewarder Headers and he said sometimes adjustments have to be made
I have done a search on this site for options, I saw where chief modified his OEM mounts, and where others are happy with the mounts from www.performanceonline.com. these are suppose to be only for 63-72, but I am hoping I can alter these to work with a 62 frame. here are some pics, any suggestions would be appreciated. I am hoping not to have to pull the motor to accomplish this.

Re: Header issues
The only problem I had with those mounts on my 65 was it brought the engine forward 3/4 of an inch. Can be a problem if you are using the stock mounts for the tranny.

Re: Header issues
I have a 62 and think I posted here before about the mounts I used.
They are the 67-72 mounts and since I had to drill brand new holes in the frame and crossmember there was no concern about positioning nor was there a need to remove the engine. In a nutshell: I loosened the 'U' bracket (original motor mount) I installed the pads to the engine and the mounts to the pads, then marked and drilled (one side at a time) the holes for the frame and crossmember. Finally, I removed the front 'U' mount You'll have to have the exhaust system out of the way before you start this, but once the pads and mounts are attached to the engine, you'll know if the headers are going to fit. |

Re: Header issues
I grabbed some mounts from a 72 and they were the same as my 65.. The two top pics are the best I have of the stock 65 mounts and the one on the bottom is of the new mounts. I had to use the new mounts with the BB for header clearance..

Re: Header issues
The top pictures from ChevyFleetside are just like mine. Time consuming (if you're a scaredy cat like me) but worth it!

Re: Header issues
I have these mounts on my '65 but I did have to do some frame trimming to make them work . Otherwise , it's too wide to fit , at least on my truck they were . I still am using the bell housing mounts and it lined up fine after the trimming . I didn't have to move the motor forward .
