Grille swap?
I found a 67 GMC SWB fleet, but the grille is painted over, and if I were to buy it I wouldnt want to pay for a new one, so my question is,
If I get all of the parts for a 67-68 Chevy grille will it swap over? What would be needed for this? Thanks in advance, Jared

Re: Grille swap?
If I remember right you will need the 67-68 outer grile, 67-68 headlight buckets with mounting screws and plastic mounting screw nuts, the bucket adjuster spring, a set of 67-68 park lights. You can use your stock core support but will have to remove the gmc headlight brackets. If you are lucky the core support will already have the holes for the 67-68 headlight buckets. You will also have to modify the headlight harness and convert it from four headlights to twin headlights. I cant remember if you can use the gmc hood latch and hood latch brace or not. Someone will probably clear this up. I hope this helps.

In the land of little rust, you might as well wait for the right truck. Lucky dog!
Seriously, keep your eyes open, and you'll find the right truck... Last edited by 72lb4x4; 07-03-2008 at 05:43 AM. |

Re: Grille swap?
I did this very same thing and it was pretty easy. I found a grill with lights and hood latch already installed at a swap meet for $75. Never tried but the latch and brace may be the same. Also got the headlight buckets and bulbs from someone else at the swap meet for $10. Just drill out the spot welds on the GMC core support that holds the headlight buckets on. I used the mounting screws from the old GMC buckets. No wiring change is needed, just plug in the 3 prong connection and leave the other hang.

Re: Grille swap?
My parts truck was a 68 GMC. I used the grill for my 68 Chevy. I had to use the core support from the GMC on my Chevy. All parts inter-changed (hood, fenders, hood latch, etc.)
