I never had any luck with cheap benders. Always do better by hand, thunbs at the center of the bend.

Re: trouble bending gas line tubing

fill the pipe with sand - then bend it. Make sure you clean it out afterwards.

If you do not have ends crimped on it they make a sleave that looks like a large spring it helps to keep the tube bend uniform through the bend. I have used the bender shown in the photo above and it worked fine.

Re: trouble bending gas line tubing

I have used the bender pictured above with good results with short pieces but got frustrated a few times trying to juggle the tool and piping that was more than a few feet long so what I ended up doing was using several pieces of scrap PVC in different diameters and bending the tubing around them.

Try your local parts store and borrow their kit to see if it works any better.

I try to bend the pieces first then cut them to length as much as
possible the short lengths will make you mad

Re: trouble bending gas line tubing

Like Alex1, I use sand. Cap off one end of the tube & fill with sand. Tamp the sand down & add more sand as needed. Cap off the other end, and now bend with anything, the tubing will not kink.
