Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
In my opinion, because I speak from experience, it always looks better in pictures than in person. Patina = decay; paint = preserve. I would rather my truck be preserved than rot away. Like I said, yours looks cool in the photo.

I like it...I think the flat tires may make for a little rough ride but the truck looks fantastic!!

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
Real is the deal
Faux is OH NO! I like it on something someone has started building but think it sucks to build something and fake the patina.I see"Rat Rods" all the time that the owner has spent thousands on the "period Correct" flathead, banjo rear with quick change, and faux patina paint.Obviously the vehicle would look better as a finished ride.I think it's a fad that will fade just like the lowriders and Pro-streeters of the 80's.I just hope larger than practical wheels fade with it.

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
IF you have all the money and resouces to put a top flight paint job, all mechanical issues, interior, wheels tires, etc etc, then restore it right. If not (most people fall into this catagory) leave it looking like it does, and do the mechanical issues, rolling stock, suspension, interior, and then do the body when it a sound driver. I like the patina look, and your's has the look everybody is shooting for. In short, I'd much rather see a truck left like that, than to have a halfa$$ paintjob over subpar bodywork.
The above opinion is what I'm doing with my beater truck. I rounded up steelie wheels, a set of '67-'68 hubcaps (you already have those!)bought some new tires, lotuned it up, and I'm currently driving it as it. I'm going to be adding a door logo to mine, but I sure wish it was authentic like your's!

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
Absoultey hate the Patina look. Maybe because the area where I live about every car of any age looks like that. The bad part is all of my trucks look like this, although it came naturally and not added by some body shop. I would kill to have a nice paint job on them!!!

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
I like an "aged" look when it`s natural. If it was me,I`d go over all I can mechanically w/o disassembly and run it awhile. Then,at some point (that will become obvious) I`d tear it down and finish out the body/cosmetics.Once restored, that`s it.I like the idea of running a run down truck that will run down fast cars.

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
I'd run it! Yeah I like em nice as well, but sometimes you get tired of asking people not to lean on your paint you just spent all day polishing up. I also wouldn't be afraid to leave that truck parked anywhere. As a matter of fact I used to roll a pretty rough 71 GMC and no one ever wanted to park next to it!

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
Its a cool truck. I would paint it. Like it has been said...the paint will save it. This I believe is a passing fad. It will pass and these trucks will either have rust away...or be fixed. Sorry guys.

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
i agree with special_k, i like the look while im fixing one up.. butafter all the mechanical and rolling problems are fixed, im going to start saving money to make it shiny
if i had your truck, id restore it to factory colors and leave some nice tall skinny tires on there with factory wheels and caps, and have the logo painted back on the doors

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
I like the patina look, used and worn, but not rotten.
I also like the dragging into modern times with the slam and big wheels look. Ralley wheels are great too. I can really appreciate most of the different styles when they are done what I guess I would call "right". I know that this is very subjective though. *Asa's truck is great (SeeTen) South-East? Does that "style" have a particular name? *Ken's is great too (N2TRUX) Clean and nice, hardly stock, but not exaggerated either *Randy's (Mudder) Show N Shine 4x4, beautiful. *Patina trucks like the blue one with the Vistas, or the 50th truck with the ralleys...I don't remember their user names, sorry. *Stock restorations like the black 67 All of them have their appeal, I couldn't pick a favorite. I think it's a shame to destroy a perfect patina truck, but they aren't all perfect. Achieving and maintaining a show truck is not for everyone either. I'm sure I left something out...tow trucks, car haulers, etc. |

Re: Patina, love it or hate it?
Well I have license plate name for your new "patina" truck. TETANUS
Maybe have this printed on a sign to lean against your truck when you are at a show. Probably wont get any leaners. =) Generalized tetanus is the most common type of tetanus, representing about 80% of cases. The generalized form usually presents with a descending pattern. The first sign is trismus, or lockjaw, and the facial spasms called risus sardonicus, followed by stiffness of the neck, difficulty in swallowing, and rigidity of pectoral and calf muscles. Other symptoms include elevated temperature, sweating, elevated blood pressure, and episodic rapid heart rate. Spasms may occur frequently and last for several minutes with the body shaped into a charcateristic form called opisthotonos. Spasms continue for 3–4 weeks, and complete recovery may take months. |
