Welcome to the board. There are a couple board members in the Bend area.

I think that 67 chevy trucks are much higher than second generation. They'd been making chevy trucks for many years prior to the 67.

Welcome to the board!

Agreed on the 2nd generation. They would actually be 8th Generation, but who's counting?

The basic generations are as follows:

1918-1928 4 cyl trucks
1929-1936 First 6 cyl trucks
1937-1940 First modern styled all steel mainstream trucks
1941-1946 little production between '43-'45 in this era due to WWII
1947-1954 Later versions offered with Custum Cab and 5 window.
1955-1959 First V8 pickups. Cameo trucks were first fleetsides
1960-1966 First Generation avail. with options like pb, ps and A/C, etc.
1967-1972 The New Breed. Well optioned trucks became relatively common.
1973-1980 First Generation to use the Silverado nameplate.
1981-1997 First trucks avail with EFI. (Some consider 73-87 the same generation)
1988-1998 EFI became standard.
1999-2006 First trucks to feature LS engines and 4 wheel disc brakes std.
2007-current

Re: New to the 2nd gen chevy trucks

Hi,welcome. The 67/68s are the most popular of this generation of trucks these days.So that`s the likes, the visual differences in these from the 69-72.Many like them all.No real bad,but some later features are wanted on these trucks that didn`t come from the factory.Mainly, front disc brakes and integrated power steering.

Re: New to the 2nd gen chevy trucks

To me the 67-72 (I group them all together) are the perfect blend of old and new. They are old enough to be considered a classic, hotrod, restoration candidate, etc. They are easy to work on and still fairly easy to find parts for.

On the other hand, they are new enought to have come standard with alot of the comforts we expect today like power steering, power disc brakes, tilt, A/C, factory 4x4 option, auto trans etc. You can easily swap in even newer parts if you desire like 4 wheel disc, fuel injection and a large amount of other aftermarket parts. Not to mention they look GREAT! If I had to go back further I would say my next favorites are the 55-57 trucks simply due to their good looks.

I guess the only real dislike is the tendency to rust more that some of the other vehicles in this age brackets...in my opinion at least.
