What did the emblem say under GMC?Those bodies are very simular to these trucks without being at all the same.Looks like that one`s got an Allison automatic.

Under GMC it says 7500 diesel. Both trucks are equiped with v6 detroit diesels of course with super chargers. The dump truck has a auto trans. The one in the weeds is a road tractor with a fifth wheel it has a manual trans.

That year would probably be a 6V-71. There's no better sounding engine in the world IMO than a 2 stroke Screamin' Detroit V6!!

Re: More pics of 72' gmc big trucks

Those 6V-53's are only 318cu in. They are small enough to fit in a pickup truck, and they are rated at 275HP and torque is 700 ft lb stock. 350HP and 1000Ft lbs are (safely) acheivable with tweaking the governor and turning up the IP. I wish I could get my hands on one reasonably. I'd love to have in my '67 C-30.

Here are a few pickups with 6V53's.

This one went 11.73 @ 115 MPH in the quarter in a '70 Ferd.

Here's another in a '79 Ferd plowing snow!

Here's one in '67 GMC pickup. I sure wish he'd join the board!

Looks like you got your wish! Was searching to see if anyone else had done the swap and found this thread.

Wow, I like that Ford truck with the Detroit, especially since it is mine!!!
Glad to see that there are more nutty people that like 6V53 Detroits...
It is our shop truck and we use it to plow snow and drive around town and get looks. We are in the process of putting a better power steering setup and 4L80E trans behind the Detroit to make it more driveable!!
The Detroit's have no injector pumps on them, you get more power by putting bigger injectors and changing the blower drive speed and cranking up the boost if it is turbocharged!!!Mine rips along pretty good except for the clutch slip under full throttle!!
Really nice to see my truck on a Chevrolet/GMC board

Mike
