Question Help! Front drive shaft keeps "falling" out.

OK this is pissing me off. The bolts that bolt the CV yoke to the transfer case keep backing out. Ive tried red, blue and green lock tight. Last time out, I forgot to check the bolts, it looks like two backed all the way out then, of course the remaining two sheared off. I've been using u-joint strap bolts because they are the same fine thread and have the smaller bolt head. Am I missing something?

Re: Help! Front drive shaft keeps "falling" out.

I had that problem before. I could not get the bolts to hold at all. I wound up cleaning the bolt holes and bolts with simple green and then soap and water. It held for me then. Apparently I got grease in there and it wouldn't hold.

Clean the bolt and the threads with brake parts cleaner. Make sure they are dry - no grease, no oil, clean... Then blue locktite the bolts and torque to spec.

Re: Help! Front drive shaft keeps "falling" out.

Above advice should work, but you could make some sheetmetal tabs, like used on exhaust manifolds

What...no pics?

I like the metal tab idea myself, then you'd be sure.

Re: Help! Front drive shaft keeps "falling" out.

you can also drill a hole through each bolt head and run a wire through the holes on each bolt then twist the ends of the wire together.

Do you have to add 10 percent of the torque value when adding a solution of liquid?

Jonnyw. There Is A Number Of Things That Can Contribute To Your Problem. You Have Already Been Told A Couple Of Things. If Those Dont Work. Check To See If Your Yokes Are Binding Up When You Put Twist On Your Suspention. Looking At Some Of Your Pictures I Bet The U-joint And Yokes Are Binding Causing Stress On The Straps And Bolts. You May Be Able To Do A Little Grinding. Or The More Expensive Route , Bigger Joints. You Probaly Have A 1350 Joint. If So Go To A 1410. I Hope The Info Helps. Looks As Though You Have Fun With Your Ride, I Can Apreciate That, Bighead
