Arm U-bolts

I am getting ready to install 73-87 A-arm and disc brakes on my truck. Many time I have read that you should use the larger 73-87 U-bolts. So how did some of you re-drill the holes? The center to center distance is different on the large bolts. Just drilling will not work unless you really make hole big. Did you slot the holes? If so, how? I have some ideas of my own, but I tend to over think things and make it harder than necessary.

Re: Arm U-bolts

I used 73-87 u bolts when I changed my 69 over. They are bigger but I didn't have to redrill any holes. They were spread more than the 69's but I just put a couple of nuts on them to protect the treads and tapped with a hammer so they would go through the holes. Had to get them about 1/8 inch closer together.

Wow! I never thought of that. I'll give it a whirl.

Zeke, you rock man! A little squeeze in the vise and the big bolt fit perfectly!
