Did I get this right?

Had to install my first TV cable. Suprise #1- TV and detent cables, while performing different dutys, are the same cable. Ok cool

So I installed it on the trans, n/p.
To hook it up to the carb I hooked the clip part into the bracket, then slid entire thing forward unitl cable could connect to carb. Tightend everything down. The calbe slides out when I push the gas all the way threw full throttle.
My question is, does this sound right? I dont think the TV calbe is being fully pulled under full throttle. Should I make it so it already has some pull even at idle so it reaches full travel with full throttle? Thanks guys

Yes that is the base point you adjust the TV cables. where the cable is fully extended with the fully extended accelerator.

what kinda tranny is it ? 2004r and 700r4 is transmission valve cable and three speed autos are detent kickdown cable

on TV cables you want max pull at but not before carb throttle is all way open. on detent cables you just adjust it to however you like how it downshifts wherever you want ti to, as long as you dont adjust to where it is max pulled before the throttle blades are fully open

Throttle valve cables technically should be set by using a pressure gauge but as a general rule of thumb you can adjust them like detent cables, it will be fairly close.

Slide the adjusting lock out, have someone press the gas pedal to the floor then slide the lock back in. While the pedal is on the floor, (ENGINE OFF) lol look down the barrels of the carb... Are both sets of plates straight up and down? The rear may be slightly off vertical just a hair. This has nothing to do with setting the cable but its a great time to make sure your throttle cable/brackets and gas pedal are at maximun movement.
