Clutch question

Does the contact of the clutch with the flywheel bolts cause chatter or any other issues, even remotely?

Thanks.

Re: Clutch question

I have not seen the clutch contact the flywheel bolts on any vehicle when properly installed. It should not
contact the bolts.

Re: Clutch question

Could be a bad throw out bearing or pressure plate finger.

Lots of things cause this. Oil contamination, hairline cracks on the flywheel or pressure plate, cheap clutch disks.

Also, if the clutch has been replaced, the flywheel/pressure plate may not have been resurfaced or resurfaced properly. Or as in my case, a defective clutch disk was the cause.

Re: Clutch question

Also clutch facing material can do it, I have a ceramic clutch and if you try to smoothly engage it, it will chatter. In my case it is engaged or not, so I litterally have to dump the clutch every single time, the cops love that by the way! If stocker, I'd be looking to get a new clutch pack and resurface or better yet buy a new OE replacement flywheel (about $75 from Summit) as the old one could be warped, thin, out of round, etc, etc and is probably 40 ish years old, too.
