Vortec Head Upgrade<<<<<<<<<<<<

Need to know what machine work is required to upgrade late model 350 vortec heads. Have purchased Z28 springs and retainers. Heads need to be good for up to 0.525" of lift.

I believe your best bet is the machine shop...the z28 springs a 1.25 diameter..same as the vortecs..they both are single springs..but the z springs will only work at .525 if they are installed at 1.7"..im not sure how they do that..I think it takes longer valves..not sure though..

I agree, go to a machine shop, and not just any shop either...vortecs are close to perfect out the box, it is very easy to screw them up.

I recently had an early set of vortechs done for my motor. I had to supply the machine shop with the cam information and let him know that I was going to put 1.6 roller tip rockers on. He did the calculations and put a stronger spring in for me.

By the way, I have decided not to use the vortechs and they can be had for $400. They have been totally gone through at the machine shop and have the stronger springs. Ready to install, with valve covers. Valve covers have not been cleaned up.
