I have alway messed with fuel injection. In fact, this is gonna show my age here, but this blazer is the first carbuerated vehicle I have ever owned.
The blazer has run pretty good so far. A couple weeks ago it gradually started getting harder to start and smelling richer and richer. Then it started missing. I changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor. It runs fine again, but still smells pretty rich.
I think I'm gonna try and rebuild this carb. But I am going into it blind. Any advice or link would be appreciated on rebuilding and tuning a quadrajet. That being said--I've always heard that quadrajets are junk. Is it worth replacing later on for a daily driver/cruiser 305 that I'm more concerned about fuel mileage/drivability rather than power? If so, with what?

i just have a quad on my truck , i find them very good and simple to rebuild but i have fooled around with them quite a bit.Nine times of of 10 just a quick teardown and cleaning will get them running well again.If is just a daily runner you dont need anything more

First get this book then get the bushing kit for the primary throttle shaft, an inexpensive tap set for the main jet well plugs, and follow the recipe for the stock one. Read the book first, actually twice might be good, then start wrenching. If you werent 1500 miles away I would show you how to do them and let you read the book.

Qjets are great carbs, people who dont like them are the ones who dont know anything about them or try to make them do things they arent intended to do. You can get great economy and the same power as a Holley with them. It works better to rebuild them if you know what they are doing and what part does what and when.

You can get the book from Barnes and Nobel or Amazon too.

Also check out Rochester Carburetors by Doug Roe. A lot of people say they’re junk but most of the time it’s because they don’t know how to work with them. Adjusted properly you can get good fuel efficiency and not lose any power. Most other carbs you sacrifice one for the other. But that also depends on how you drive.

I just ordered the book on Amazon for 15.50. That will be better than getting it off and "tinkering" for sure.
I'll see what kind of performance I can get out of it.
