Mounting an electric fuel pump in 69 c10.
I want to install an electric fuel pump. Any pics of one installed in 67-72 truck? I am looking for a place to mount it. Thanks

No pics at the moment, but I mounted mine on the steel member below the fan and radiator. There was holes there to use for mounting.

All you need to know is electric pumps are meant to be mounted BELOW the gas tank and as close to the tank as possible. By design they push the fuel that is gravity fed from the tank. I have had some customers who mounted an electric pump in the engine compartment with no problems but technically thats not how they're supposed to work.

shouldnt the electric fuel pump be mounted as close as possable to the fuel tank? for less suction purposes?

A real big advatage of electrics is that, when mounted in back near the tank, the entire fuel line is pressurized. This helps to prevent vaporlock. The biggest dis-advantage is during a fire.....for the same reason. The entire fuel line is pressurized. If the pump is not wired to shut-off when the engine is not running...it could continue to feed a fire in the event of a crash/rupture. Mechanical pumps stop immediately with the engine. |
