DJM Flip.. All good except the shock extenders!

Just finished my flip kit install- so total drop 3/5. My only problem is the shock extenders. Problems are:

1. All the bolts that came with the kit were too small for the holes in the extender.

2. The holes in the extenders are not the same size in the extender as on the original shock mounts.

3. The extenders dont go all the way up to the axle shaft- they look like they are made to mount right against it, but the bolt holes prevent that!

4. The ouside bolt interfers with the new spring plates!

Anyone get te same prob?

Re: DJM Flip.. All good except the shock extenders!

I had the same issue with the plate on the driver side so I had to clearance it a little. Mine werent coated as nice as yours though so it didnt bother me. The extenders on my kit had the same fitment problems but since I was ordering new shocks anyway I got the drop shocks and tossed the brackets.

Drop looks good man!

Re: DJM Flip.. All good except the shock extenders!

Yes, I had the same problems. Pics from my DJM thread -

I don't think the gap from the extender to the axle tube is an issue. The original shock mount is welded on the outside edge, it would be nearly impossible to make the extender sit flush against the axle tube because of that weld bead.

The outside bolt interfereing with the spring plate does bother me. Eventually I will take mine apart and grind a notch to clear the bolt head. I think having three bolts should make it plenty strong.

Re: DJM Flip.. All good except the shock extenders!

454HO, It looks like you have the same bolts that I had - were they the wrong size?? My extenders had 5/8" bolt holes and the kit comes with 9/16"! Stuff like that drives me nuts! Its like DJM didn't plan out the kit!!!

I think my plan is going to be to weld the braket on and then drill out 2 of the bolt holes to fit 5/8 properly then get some grade 8 bolts to mount everything up. It will probably be twice as strong!!

mine is from western chassis the extenders didnt mount flush with axle but the bolts are alot higher than the spring plates. all hardware was correct. i opened the box layed under ther truck and 20 minutes later i had much nicer ride quality.

My Western Chassis extenders came with no instructions, and was two bolts short. There were no clearance problems, but I used drop leaves rather than a flip kit.

Hmmm, I'm starting to think my spring packs are missing some leaves. I only have 3 plus the thick helper... does that look right? A thicker spring would definately give more clearance for that outside bolt.

My 74 has the same 4leaf springs as you have. I'm going to change them for some 8leaf springs that I took off my Burb when I did the suspention on it. On the western kit did you have to pull the center bolt out of the springs and flip it? I used a Bell Tech flip on my Burb and didn't have to do anything to the springs.

i think were having this same discussion in 2 different threads but no i didnot puul the center pin the new spring plate has a hole in it for the pin so does the axle cup.:
