Parting and Scrapping...what to keep?
Perfectly good 8-lug Dana 3.54 "peg leg" or....8-lug GM 4.10 posi that needs service? I need to take advantage of these high scrap prices!!!!!!!!

mike... the 3.54 is of value to someone. I wouldn't scrap it personally.
Same with the Eaton... although, I'd only keep the 3rd member and scrap the rest. |

Thanks, Andy...that is just what I needed to clear my thoughts. I will just pull the third member from the '68 GMC and scrap the rest of the truck. Saves me switching rearends.

Ya know, the more I look here, seems this site isn't into the 67-72 trucks other than the sheet metal. What a shame, in stock version those was some of the more powerful trucks GM ever made! I suppose most here must be city boys wanting the latest for a great looking truck, but I will put my stock againt any of the comglaboration you call the 67-72 era, My first truck was a stock 1969 K20, it would hang with most cars in a short run, and I not affraid of hooking up my stock to most you alls truck of many parts.

red, While pretty much everyone here will agree with your comments, we'll only agree to a certian point.
The 2 items at hand are the 2 rears offered in the 67 - 72 3/4 ton truck, the eaton HO52/corperate, and the dana. The dana is a great 2 wheel drive rear, but only for stock to a couple notches above stock. With the weak 24 (I think) spline axles, they shatter once you put any real good power, or big tires (4X4) or good traction to them. The eaton is a wonderfull piece, and about as bullit proof as they came, but, some parts are not avalible for some of them anymore, making them a PITA to keep and maintian. The best thing you can do to the 20 and 30 series rear... swap it out for a 14 bolt or upgrade the dana. While we all agree that the 67 - 72 is one of the... if not THE best truck GM built, it's kinda like a 55-57 chevy, if they were so good, why did they stop making them?
