1962 Chev 3/4 ton 2WD -- Towing ?

My grandmother is giving me her '62 Chevy 3/4 ton. I am sure I will have numerous questions for the forum once my sons and I start the restoration process, but my immediate issue is I have to trailer it from TX to CA.

Does anyone know the curb weight of the truck or know where I can find the info?

Any experiences with UHaul car hauls? I will be pulling it with a FORD F150 FX4 Super Cab 5.4L.

Thanks

You will have no problem towing with that 5.4 F-150. I used to tow many vehicles with a 4.6 2001 F-150, with no problems. Once a month, I would tow our shop recycler metal trailer (10,000lbs) to the metal yard as well....I know, defiantely exceed thel limits here.

Anyway, I have my own trailers, but I have pulled U-hauls before and they work very well....Nice tire tie-downs with rachets, good ramps, etc.

Just bring a can of WD with you, to lube the rachets...U-haul never seems to never lube those....

IF i was you, try to go with penskye or ryder. I had a u-haul trailer awhile back that someone else wrecked and they gave to me. couldn't travel above 45 without the death shake. 29 hour drive i made with a death grip on the wheel of the dodge trying to get it home. Turned out the front axle on the trailer was 3 inches to the driver side and passenger side on the front axle was shoved back almost two inches causing it to want to steer itself.

I wish my grandmother had a 62 C20!

As the others have said, I'm sure your F150 will pull the load alright. I've had this much weight behind my 77 C10 and it only has a 250.

Are you going with a a 2 wheel dolly or a double axle flat trailer?

i would use a flat trailer, because that is less wear on the truck that you are pulling, and it is just better, IMHO
