What CAT to buy?
Im going to start buyig the components of my exhuast. First thing I will buy will probly be the headers. I will most likely have them Jet Hot coated. Then muffler and cat. Then I will go down to a local muffler shop and have them install everything from the Y pipe back. Unless I can find a kit, then I will do it myself.
How big is the output on the Y pipe that comes with these headers? Is it 3"? If so I want to run a 3" pipe from the Y to the cat then to muffler. Muffler to split the 3" to two 2-1/2"'s and have them exit behind rear tire on each side. Anyone make a kit like that? What CAT should I buy? I want a good high flow CAT, that will still work well for emissions.

Ocbaud thats very nice of you, but I really want to go with a single 3". If I was to go to true duals then I would go to 2-1/2's. That of course would cost more money.

not but one cat as far as I concerned. I have Random Technology on my truck. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. These cats are the best flowing on the market. The Edelbrock TES headers have the y-pipe ending in a 3" outlet. Then it has an adapter which reduces it down to 2.25". Leave the adapter off and go straight from the 3" outlet to the cat with a short piece of pipe.

I've also heard of dual inlet outlet cats. Not sure on brand but that may be a cheaper route.

I use catco's on my 79. Radom techs are better, but the catcos were only $95 a piece
THE best flowing cat out there, even better then radoms, is actually chevys cat for a 98 tahoe. 400 somthing CFM of flow. I read a flow test done on some cats once. Tahoe was best, then came random, a dodge viper cat, a corvette cat, etc. Unfortunatly they didnt test catco.

How big is the exhuast on the 98 Tahoe? Might be able to find a cat somewhere.
Good lord $211 or $95 I guess I will have to think about this one. Its not like I have a race engine or anything so I know I dont absolutly need the best flowing, but hey I want to put a nice exhuast on here that is going to last. I dont know. Anyone of them have a warranty? What can someone say to talk me into one of the other?

All I can tell you is, it's a matter of choice. Your's in the end. I done a lot of reading on cats before I bought mine. I wanted the best and best flowing because of the way I have to run my exhaust. With the y-pipe going into one, I felt I needed the Randon Technology. They have done testing on these and when added to Corvettes, they never hurt HP, and actually increased it in some instances. Hard to believe though.
As I have said, you get what you pay for. So, I guess it's up to you. A lot of help I know. |

for reals B. Its up to you. If you have the cash, go with random tech cat[s] If you just need a quality high flow cat that might not offer the best performance but dosnet take a whole lota cash catcos might be the way to go. I think you'll be happy either way.

I guess its just gonna come down to how much cash I have when I buy the cat. If I can afford the Random then Ill get it, but if Im short on cash then Ill get the catco.
