71 short step 4x4

I am curious how many short bed step side 4x4s of the 71 vintage are out there. I have never seen one besides the one I just got.

Anyone?

Great pictures. That orange one is just what I'm hoping this one will end up like. It's the same color. Beautiful!!!

I'll post pictures tonight or tomorrow. It's arriving via transport today.

Are you saying that there were only 1438 of these made in 1971? If so, then that is very few. Please confirm, and clue me in as to how you researched that figure.

Re: 71 short step 4x4

Thanks 68SWB4X$!! I found it just like you said.
I was very happy to see that we have a rare model. Probably even more rare because it has the Cheyenne package. I was also amazed to see that the 2WD Long-Fleet production run was 206313 in 1971. What a contrast eh? Thank you for the search tip.

Re: 71 short step 4x4

Yeah, the short Stepsides were low-production 4wds,alright.And,being a Cheyenne really narrows it.That orange one I showed is an inspiration. It`s just right.I like that green one, too.I have 6" springs and 37" Swampers.I was planning on making a truly offroad capable rig out of mine. But,am leaning towards a 4" w/35s look like those trucks and use the bigger stuff on my longbed.I`m thinking Medium Blue (like originally) w/blue interior.

Cool, you still have the tires.

Don't back out on the first build, I'm doing the same thing with my blazer and have a sweet drive train worked out, pm if you wanna stay with the 37's.

Back on topic:
Great stepper, welcome to the board.

I have one of those super high production number 70 short fleet 4x4'x of which something like 2500 were made...gawd their everywhere!

Re: 71 short step 4x4

heck, that's not many. It's the 2WD short fleets that are everywhere. 70 is a great year to have. The peak of the horsepower era.

Re: 71 short step 4x4

^A little sarcasm,VT?Yeah, these short 4wds are a low number lot. And,they are so cool!I haven`t been able to make mine a priority...at all.Not even parts gathering.I do have a 4spd/NP205 for it,now. And,since I built another motor for my 2wd project I have a decent`71 350 to use. This is one truck where I think about it all done and get excited picturing what it`ll be like driving it.That`s my inspiration.
