A little more panel progress

Bill still needs to paint the dash, firewall and jambs. He started on a little color sanding in the meantime. When I finally get this last chunk home I had planned on busting my rear and knocking this thing out. Ive decided Im just going to take it slow and make it my fall and winter project instead. Hopefully be ready by spring ?

Once you go black, you'll never go back, right? Looks nice, so far. If it was mine, my buds would be jealous. Looks good.

Man someone had balls to paint all that flat sheet metal black looks like the body man did one hell of a good job on getting it straight.

Lookin good! I've always liked panels. Have you posted somewhere what the overall theme will be? Like old school, hot rod look, or bagged w/big rollers or just a really evil beast?

Re: A little more panel progress

Thanks guys. There will be no graphics of any kind and no pinstripes. Emblems are all shaved. All new exterior chrome pieces. Im hoping that will be a cool look...Still undecided on wheels and tires...except that they will be 15's, all four corners the same size....probably..lol.

Oh, that is going to be nice! You have the right plan...don't goober it up with flashy trick paint stuff that will be out of style in six months.
I just got these 15X8 wheels & BFGs. I have the faces blasted & ready for paint.

Re: A little more panel progress

Man, that is looking good!!! I've been worried about going with a dark color on mine, but all that black is giving confidence. I'm thinking a fairly dark blue for mine. Say, can you take a few shots of your stand that it's on? I'm going to need to make one for mine pretty soon.

Im going for something close to a 4/6 drop. I have the drop springs, spindles, blocks and notches ready to go. As far as engine/trans...I have the original plan Caddy 500, TCI turbo 400 and Gear Vendors OD for it. I also have a 427 and 4sp set aside and I also have a mild 350 350 combo. If I dont use the Caddy set up I would be sitting on over 4k worth of brand new drivetrain components. Doubt anyone would step up and purchase it from me with todays economy.

Truck looks sssswwwweeeeetttt! New paint always looks good (mine is getting some Red paint as we speak......). Did you end up using a lift/tailgate or did you go with barn doors? It's going to look sweet regardless of the wheels you put on, but my vote would be for a set of 18/20s, .

Re: A little more panel progress

Body and paint started 3/06. Here is the hood done on 6/06, fenders and grill were done at the same time. Then the doors and barn doors were done by 6/07. The barn doors are going to have red plexi (a 60's thing) they will look a little darker red when installed on the panel.

Alot of things happened in my body/painter guys world during this time. Im just happy this is getting close to coming home almost to 2 and a half years later.

Unfortunatly my new shops wiring did not pass inspection today. So it will be another week or so before I can even start using it.

I swear its always something around here....so much BS has happened its just gotten to where its laughable. Ill put a build thread up when I'm officially able to start putting her together.

Re: A little more panel progress

Can't wait to see it altogether. My next door neighbor growing had a shortie '71 or '72 black Chevy van with the red plexi windows. It also had red teardrops in the rear. It had 15 x 10 Keystone Classics and a mural of the Molly Hatchet Flirtin' with Disaster album cover. That think was cool as an ice cube to me when was a kid!
