Can i solid mount my transmission?

Im making a tranny crossmember and wanted to know if i could mount the transmission DIRECTLY to the crossmember. Its a th400 trans with 454 if it matters. It will be driven at least 2/3 times a week. Is it necessary to have the rubber mount in between??? Anyone know where i can get the rubber mount portion if it is necessary???

Any ideas where i can pick one of the rubber mounts up? Im looking at these aftermarket crossmembers and none of em seem to come with the rubber mount portion.

any parts store can get it.
If you mou nt the tranny solid, but not the engine, you WILL break the tranny in 2.

Re: Can i solid mount my transmission?

Lyrikz, I have a parts truck with cross member and rubber mount for a TH400 if you want to pull it. I am on the East Hill in Kent.

Is your truck a 3/4 ton? I might have some other parts you may have some interest in as well.

Re: Can i solid mount my transmission?

I'd do the urethane mounts as the BBC has a bit o torq and over time will tear the OE replacement types. As for the solid mounting I agree with the above, only if the motor is and then only in a race set-up.
