Re: hey!! I can turn on the truck without key

The key cylinder is all worn out. I bought a new set a while ago from classic parts of america. It's the one key does all lock. I only have two square keys and they unlock the doors and starts the ignition. It even comes with GM keys with the punch out blanks in them. A lot of times this is caused from having a heavy key chain or a lot of keys on the key ring while hanging from the ignition.

On a side note: Never let anybody see you start your truck without the key, ever....

You're not supposed to broadcast that kind of thing. GM discreetly engineered that so lazy guys like me don't have to dig for thier keys.

Mine does that too. I think it's funny, but everyone just rolls their eyes at me when I show them.

Re: hey!! I can turn on the truck without key

My first car('77 Silverado) did this, and now my '87, also my '88 Chrysler. But only after turning it with the key enough to unlock it, then you can pull it out. Seen lots of cars do that.

Re: hey!! I can turn on the truck without key

You can actually "jerk" the key out of any older GM ignition, key switched to on position, and cause it to be like that.

Re: hey!! I can turn on the truck without key

you can shoot some wd40 in there on the off chance that there is just something gumming up the cylinder so that the pins wont move and make the cylinder lock.. but chances are the cylinder is shot

Re: hey!! I can turn on the truck without key

My 78 did that and it was great until the day it wouldn't turn off, even with the key. Had to pop the hood and disconect the battery.
