engine wiring, fuse panl help!!!

So last night Im driving home from work and the truck just shuts down. I pull over and try to restart...nothing. I thought it was vapor locking but after playing with a wire at the fuse panel it started again.

This morning I popped the hood and grabbed the wire and it came out of the fuse panel....and now I dont know how to reattach it, Im afraid there is not an easy way....need help fast as I need to drive home from work tonight

The wire runs to the starter, then back to the distributor. The truck will "fire" but not stay running.

This is on a 68', not that is probably matters but the fuse panel may be different between years, not sure. The truck has the stock 327 with an HEI...

where the wire needs to go

wire "pushed" into location but not secure

the truck has obviously had some hack wiring done, looks like I need to look into some new stuff...any recommendations???

Re: engine wiring, fuse panl help!!!

would a harness such as the one below replace the fuse panel on the firewall or is it wires only?

Who makes a good engine harness? I would prefer to go with a site vendor if possible but wiring is not my area of expertise...

any help GREATLY appreciated

Re: engine wiring, fuse panl help!!!

Hollywood,I can't tell you about a new harness but I can maybe help you get solid while you are figuring out what to do.I got info from a FAQ post by member "shifty" on installing an HEI.He gave NAPA part #'s for the terminal pieces. You can unbolt the plug from the firewall and use a small screwdriver to remove the existing terminal. Then use a new terminal and crimp the wire. You can then push the crimped terminal back into the plug to fix your problem. This should get you going but the harness does look like it needs replcement.
Here's a link to "shifty's" thread with part #'s and instructions which should help.

I realize it is for a 6 cyl. but part # etc should be the same.It will not fix the bad harness but will get you home.

Re: engine wiring, fuse panl help!!!

wow, thanks a ton. That gives me exactly what I need. Replacing the harness is in the plans but to get it fixed for now that is perfect.

now who makes a quality replacement engine harness? The temp fix is good, but I drive the truck daily, so a new harness has jumped up high on my list of parts to replace...

Re: engine wiring, fuse panl help!!!

Thanks everyone, ran the wire in the cab and hooked it up to the last spare keyed 12V, and we are in business.

The bad news is every single wire going into the engine harness is held in with silicone....not good. Time to order a harness and fix this mess.
