Alternator question.

Yes I have read every faq and any link I can find. My question was not answered in any of them.
Did we ever find a cs130 alternator that had the tabs in the right spots (THe ones I've seen are at 10 or 2 and 6, we need 12 and 6)? My understanding is that you also need the 75 ohm 3 watt resistor for the cs130 alternator only. And it is only needed on Gauge Dash Clusters. Correct?
What did we finally decide on the right wiring was for the 100 amp 86- 87 camaro alternator? I know it had another wire in the harness.

And can the pullies be taken right off of the old style external regulated alternators and put on the cs130 serpentine style alternators without modifications??
Thanks for the info guys.
Shawn

Re: Alternator question.

I got a cs144 alt. from these guys- http://www.alternatorparts.com They sent me the correct one with the 6 & 12 mounting. They also have a lot of good info here- http://www.alternatorparts.com/FAQ.htm

basically all you do-- hook a power wire to the "I" terminal= no resistance required, hooking your power wire to the "L" terminal if you want to run it thru resistance like a light bulb. The power wire in both cases would be off an ignition hot source. Thats all you need to make it work correctly. The alternator will revert to an internal voltage sensing and work correctly.
I ran mine thru a light on the dash to the "L" termianl, it comes on when I turn the key on and goes off when the engine starts. If the alternator ever stops working correctly the light will go on. That is the only wire I have connected to it other than the main power lead going to the battery and it works great.
and yes, I took the old pulley off and put it on the new alternator. The only other thing I had to do was get a longer belt because the cs144 is bigger and needs to sit farther out off the motor for clearance but it still uses the stock mounting brackets. IIRC I needed to enlarge the groove in the bracket just a little too because the mounting screw on the new alt. is metric.

more good cs130 info here- http://www.chevelles.com/techref/tecref14.html

Re: Alternator question.

I get mine off of 92-95 Caddy's(FULLY LOADED Caddys). I have done a write up on how to install one on here. They are GREAT alternators and VERY easy to install. If I get time, I will sit down and do it again(write up). Good Luck
