Where do you find one?
Hello,
Great web site and a wealth of information. I have been looking for over a month trying to find a 67,68 or 72 chevy that my sons and I could rebuild together. I've never done anything like this before, but I thought we could all learn together. My problem is trying to find one. Where do you find your trucks at? I've looked on ebay, craigslist, etc, and they are either way to expensive or they are already restored. I don't want something that is completely restored because I'm going to use it as a daily driver, but if anyone could help me find one, I would really appreciate it. I'm looking to spend around $1000. Thanks again. Joe |

Re: Where do you find one?
Have you looked at the trucks for sale on this board? At that price point you would probably be best off in the parts section. There are some trucks that are pretty complete that show up from time-to-time in the parts section.
You may also want to PM boardmember teeitup. He is in Meriden, less than an hour West of you. He parts out a lot of trucks, but does sell a few whole ones from time-to-time. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/member.php?u=3597

Re: Where do you find one?
I would also suggest a "driving restoration" meaning that you find a decent driveable truck (might cost a little more up front) and that you work on it as you can. A lot of guys (like me) bought a worn out, rusted truck that needed a full restoration and start getting burnt out in less than a year. The dollars add up on a big project.
Go for rust free vs mechanical condition. Long beds are cheaper and easier to find. Rare options will cost you more as well. my 2 cents, good luck and welcome though...

Re: Where do you find one?
i mean this is worst possible case Scenerio but you could always go for a drive/call to junkyards/autoshops.
i have found quite a few here in there florida georgia carolinas that of course could use alot of work but all have potential. if your not in a huge hurry just keep your eyes open while you drive and when you see one sitting (really works on any old car) go ask the person closest who owns it and are they interested in selling it. half the time i get "no i have plans for her" or "to much sentimental value" but give them a Card/phone number and let them sit on it. sometimes they call back a day a week or even a year later.

Re: Where do you find one?
Look in old barns, (with permission of course) farmers fields, stuff like that. Don't know about your area, but it seems every 3 miles I see a truck in a field. I would have to agree with msgross, rust free is a way better find than a good mechanically sound truck. Rust = $$$ real fast.

back roads//if you see somebody driving one ask them if they have or know of others for sale lots of time word of mouth and personal contact is the best way to get something local and cheap//be prepared for alot of wild goose chases somtimes you need to look at hundreds before you find the gem

Re: Where do you find one?
You might want to check out ebay's "salvage parts cars". I found that there are a bunch of "treasures" (or at leat they seem to be) its under ebay motor then parts and accessories. I just checked and I saw a 69, 70 and 71
here's what I used http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Ac...vroletQQ_pgnZ1

Re: Where do you find one?
I think every truck I have ever had just popped up when I wasn't really looking hard. Every time I have fell into the "I want" phase & was looking hard, nothing could be found. Shortly after getting disgusted from wasting time to drive all over to look at overpriced junk, I'd give up. Then it wouldn't be long and what I wanted would find me
Board member Teeitup (Randy) lives just North of Topeka. He goes thru spurts where he will find one truck after another, after another... watch for his posts. Sometimes he parts out some decent trucks that could be saved. I'm in your area, I'll keep an eye out for ya

If you can't find anything on the boards here you can also try http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com. I found my '63 on there several years ago. Good luck on your search and let us know when you find something. Don't forget to post pics too when you find something.

Man:
You are in Kansas and those things are everywhere. I live close to Emporia and see them around all of the time. I believe that if you look in some of the areas between Wichita and KC, you will find what you want. Come to the Midwest All Truck Nationals at the Riverside Park in KC, in September and see if someone there has one for sale. How much of a project do you want and what condition are you willing to take on? (long Bed, Short Bed) |

Re: Where do you find one?
The amazing thing about his quest is that it is what we all want. I remember all of those years, very well. I remember thinking, "that's quite a change from last year (in '67)". I don't remember thinking, "I'm gonna have me one of those someday". In the day, if you remember, we pretty much got new cars every year. Trucks got tweaked and stayed that way for several years.
Now, we are talking about the trucks we know and love (or love to hate) and doing it in the same way I remember wanting vehicles 30 years ago. I'm 60, so I remember, okay? My youngest son wanted a truck and he found a '69 and that's what we bought, and it lead to me buying mine. So, our kids can be a reason to get into this hobby....a sometimes wallet-draining hobby. So, WELCOME! to the board from The Heart of Arkansas. Go on-line and check out the ads from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Check out the Antique Cars listing. I would be amazed if you didn't find at least one listing. I've seen many for $1k or less, and many for more. Don't know how old your sons are, but don't let the time get away from you or they will.....and you won't have your truck or the memories.

Re: Where do you find one?
I put something together awhile back that searches for these trucks in craigslist. It makes it real easy, because it does all the searching for you. Here's one for you for Kansas City. There are quite a few trucks for sale there. Good Luck.

Re: Where do you find one?
You know what,Joe?I think you`ll find now that you are keen on these trucks they will be jumping out of the woodwork.Don`t jump on the first one you see.
There`s a short wide 69/70 and same C/20 behind a shop in a nearby town,a C/10 longbed along MD27,a lifted K/20 off of Sydney Rd.,another`70 K/20 at a Sunoco station,a`67 longbed in Libertytown,a lowered short wide on Hall Shop Rd.,another longbed 69/70 down off Klee Mill Rd.,The guy that fixed my a/c has a brown`69 Custom/10 sitting...these are all diamonds in the rough.

Re: Where do you find one?
Welcome to the board - lots of good suggestions above - take a Saturday or Sunday and start driving dirt roads - get out a little, enjoy the day and keep your eyes peeled. When you see one sitting at a farm house - go knocking on the door - you may be surprised what you find.
