if you dont want to rent a lock plate tool its easy to make one using a piece of flat stock, a couple of bolts and four nuts

Re: Ignition lock cylinder removal???

WOW! i just did mine in the autozone parking lot so i wouldn't have to rent the tools and it took me about 15-20 minutes......

i didn't have to take anything out of it. just took off the white turn signal switch and then removed the torx screw that held the cylinder in place and then pulled. it came right out.

i have no idea what would be holding it in there......you have the key in the lock position right?

I can move the cylinder without the key so... I didn't see a torx screw.. I can't remove it

Re: Ignition lock cylinder removal???

ok, the whole where i drew the circle - that is where the torx screw was on mine. when i pulled it out, it was about 3/4 of an inch long and thats what holds it in place. so unless it is broke off in there or something else is in there i dont see what would be holding it in place.

do you have a pic of the actual key hole? maybe you have the pin style.....where you have to push the little pin in then pull.

mines an 85 truck with tilt steering btw.

Re: Ignition lock cylinder removal???

If you removed the correct screw , try turning the ignition to the run position and see if it comes out . I cant see but if there is a slot where my arrow is , Take a screwdriver and press the small latch where the arrow is pointing if there is a vertical opening . If it doesnt come out the first time , turn the key to run and try again . The torx screw should have had a threaded portion and a smooth shouldered section if it was the correct screw .

Re: Ignition lock cylinder removal???

thats how mine was (torx screw) and thats all it took and the key cylinder basically fell out in my hands.

i bet his is the one you have to use the screwdriver to get out with. i've never seen that one personally so i dont know the how to for that one.
