aftermarket tranny
is there any good aftermarket auto trannys that are more than 3 or 4 speed for a sbc truck?

The newest Cadillac Escalade has a 6 speed auto in it, and in a year or two it will be available in trucks. That's probably your best bet.

Yes, Gear Vendors charges huge premiums for these. They are based on the british Laycock brand overdrive, many of which came on Volvos behind 4 speed manual transmissions. All Gear Vendors did is buy the production rights, strengthen it, then build adapters for different transmissions.
Now you would think you could grab one of these Volvo units and get an adapters from Gear Vendors right ? Nope. They won't even talk to you until you produce a valid Gear Vendors serial number, and if you get that far, you MUST exchange the adapter that originally came with the unit. I do like the concept of keeping the strength and simplicity of my Turbo 350 and having a rock solid overdrive to go behind it, but the cost is just ridiculous.
