Redoing LWB floor :) - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well as some of you guys know my floor is shot! Ive been searching for a decent LWB for awhile now and cant find any within a reasonable distance worth while so... Ive decided to scrape the factory floor/sills and build a custom floor and also box the sides in (if that makes sense).Im using 2x3" 14ga box tubing for the sills, 1x1 14ga for bracing and when i finally do the floor it will be 16ga sheet. I plan to widen the factory tubs 6" also. Anyways here are some before and some current pics..

I have actually but the bed is so F'ed up its not funny. the PO had welded diamond plate over the existing floor which really messed up the inside of the bedsides. but it will come out cheaper and be totally smooth with the 16ga sheet.

Your welcome, I just thought that I would show the option, because not a lot of guys know about them. Either way I think it would be great.

I also thought about buying replacement bed sills but at 40bucks a pop plus other issues.. its not worth it to me. comes out way cheaper and stronger with the 2x3 & 1x1 tubing. i spent $245 for 48' of 2x3" 14ga & 24' of 1x1" 14ga tubing. of course ill have extra

but bed sills would be over 200 from a repop and is not as beefy

its funny you say that.. cuz the truck see's the strip alot its actually better that ill have just a tad more weight back there

but really the 2x3 is not much heavier than the stock sills.

just remember guys "custom dont come in a box"

my 71 has that same rust across the inside windshield. got the replacement panel already, im just not ready to replace it

Update from today 7/27 got most of the bracing tacked in place. also installed the repro tailgate i got from board member 6t727t2 yesterday
