Question about a 1970 Sierra Grande 9 ft bed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can anyone help me with information on these. It called a cutom cab has a 427 engine, automatic, are these things rare, never seen a 9 foot bed.

I think you are looking for the GMC version of Chevy's Longhorn. It was created by adding one foot of bedside extension to the front of the bed. There will be a vertical seam in the bedside. Engines for those body styles included anything offered in that year, sixes and eights. Don't believe a 427 was offered in a truck, unless it was a tall-deck block in a larger (40-50-60)series body. I drove a '74 Tri-Axle dump that had a 427 in it. But it wasn't the passenger car block.

I`m not sure what you saw.Pictures or more info would help.With what you`vdescribed I image this was a C3500 Fenderside,Stepside on Chevys.The 427 wouldn`t be original.I still don`t believe there were even exceptions made on COPOs.There would be no point in someone going through the trouble and expense anyway.GMC never called anything "Custom Cab".They did have a "Custom" model.But,if it`s a Sierra Grande it`s the top-of-the-line and much finer than a Custom.Now...if it`s a`70 C3500 Sierra Grande big block Fenderside then,yes,that`s a rare truck.More rare than the same in a shortbed Wideside,which is more rare than a Cheyenne Super big block Fleetside.

I'll try to get some pictures today. Sorry it is a GMC, my son was told that it had a 427, it is a fleetside with the foot added w/ seam, it also has a fiberglass cap that was made for the 9 foot.

it's most likely an 8 1/2 foot bed, custom camper.

Well,it is a big block and someone may have swapped a 427 in there.That is a fine example and surely should be saved.That cap was top-o-the-line back then and a great piece for a Longhorn owner...only.
