Hi Guys,

Just logged in today for the first time in a long time. I wanted to read the latest on enamel paint versus basecoat/clearcoat for an upcoming project.

Some of you may remember my posts in the past i.e., Cab hanging from rafters, sandblasted frame, big block 4wd drivetrain.

Recent pictures of my on going restoration project. Paint is Dupont Centari (Acrylic Enamel) sanded and buffed. I did all prep and paint work in my house garage.

lookin sweet! For reference... I believe this is a before shot of this same truck...
In '99 I was doing lots of google searches for longhorns. i had just logged onto the internet, and was also trying to assemble a longhorn web site.
I found this photo of a longhorn converted to 4X4, but I couldn't see the line on the bed, so I never posted it on my site.
never realized you were a member here too.

Man that is a sweet truck! Nice job on the restoration. I can't wait to get my truck together. I am in the process of converting a Longhorn to 4x4 with a BBC. This really helps the inspiration meter. LOL

You are correct, as usual. I did post some in progress pictures 3-4 years ago, also.

I still need to finish the interior upholstery, install front inner fenders, side windows, and some other little things.

What is your opinion on a rear bumper?

Beauty bumper, step bumper, or roll pan?

I generally don't care for step bumpers myself.... but one would look at home on that truck. (maybe it's just becouse it's a 4X4 which screams utility to me)
I always say you can never go wrong with the stock chrome bumpers though.

Dieselwrencher,

When I got my truck the spring shackles were already mounted and the previous owner had torched to big ugly holes in the frame. The holes were slightly off by about 1/2" from factory trucks and the were right around the position of the bulges for the E-brake cable.

As a result I cut out both the bulges and burn-out holes and made two (2) flat plates with a clean percise hole. Plates were then welded into the frame and ground flush as can be seen in the pictures.

This was really important to me because I wanted a factory, quality look on the 4x4 conversion. Everything else was already there and the burn-outs looked terrible.

Anyway, I have some dimensions etc. from my research if you need them.

I wouldn't go roll pan on a 4x4. A step (my fav on a 4x4) or a "sport" bumper would look great though.
