1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

I just baught a 1972 blazer 4x4. It is missing the engine, trans, transfer case and drive shafts. The frame is cracked at the engine cross member. It has no title, it is rusty, but could be saved. It is a CST with air. Has torn buckets and a console. The top is there and appears to be in nice shape. I am wondering how rare these really are? I would hate to cut it up because the only stuff I want is the front leaf spring perches and engine cross member and front spring shackle hangers. What do you guys think? Should it be parted and scrapped or sold to someone who will save it? If I could find the parts I need from a truck I would just get those parts and sell the whole Blazer. Thanks Ryan.

I agree, lets see some pics. Of course everyone here is going to say it's salvageable but you we'll try to be honest.

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

They made fewer than 80,000 Blazers between 1969 and 1972. When you consider how many have met their demise, there are not too many left. If it is salvageable, go for it. If it has enough parts to save another, part it - just don't cut it up for scrap metal.

If the body has minimal rust then sell it whole for someone to restore or build it yourself. Shouldn't be to hard to find what your needing in a junkyard.

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

You can check my junkyard jimmy thread to maybe get some answers about whether to save it. The frame can be repaired. The body may not be worth the effort, but replacements from out west are available. It's a lot of work. Anyway, I have an engine cross member I'd sell ya and I'm in MN if you don't want to part yours out.

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

It's in alot better shape than a lot of blazers that are running on this board, my vote, sell it whole if you're not wanting it or get it running and drive it!!

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

Better than what I started with. But it does need a ton of work. It's your truck and you can do what you want with it. But asking the members of this board is not exactly going to result in an unbiased opinion.

It's fixable but I would completely understand parting it out also.

Mike, did you save any of the leaf spring hangers or the cast shackle brackets from your parts blazers?

If you do wind up scrapping it, I need very badly, the upper windshield frame. If you dont, I'd say its a good project truck you could do, or that someone would buy eventually. Where is the frame cracked?

Keep it and fix er up. Find a way to get a title for it first. I wouldn't put any money in it until you get that. Speaking from 1st hand experience. Anyways, looks good. Mario

Other than the cross member, it's all razor blades or japanese cars by now.

I know a junkyard in southern MN that has what you need though. I'm not sure with Iowas registration laws, but I was finally able to get a title for mine. Registration was easy, just brought in the sales receipt with the ID#, etc. The title though needed an explanation of where I got it, a note from the guy who sold it to me, pictures to estimate value for possible bonding.

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

It's gonna take a bunch of work, but way too much there to consider scrapping it. Cool to see the rear side panels.

I'd start off with a PM to teeitup and gregsplace - one of them will likely have exactly what you need.

If not, I'd get a wtb post in the parts section, there will surely be someone who has the parts you need.

Sell that K5!

Re: 1972 Blazer: Knock in the head or sell complete

Well I am going to part it out. I crawled under it this morning after I unloaded it and it is pretty rusty. So I decided I will part it. I have my longhorn at my shop, which I rent, and the land lord isn't happy. I only rent 2 spots and I am taking up three due to the longhorn. I have to get it out of there so I am just going to take the pieces I need off this blazer and part the rest. I would consider holding on to it and building it later but my project list is too long right now anyway. Thanks for all the input though guys.
