Same old truck, new pics

I had today off work and spent a good part of the day in the garage and decided to get my wife's truck out for some updated pics. I put on an exhaust system a buddy of mine took off his truck including the rams horns. I beat her leaky headers and cherry bombs with a hammer before I threw them away to celebrate getting rid of that system.

Precisely why I have a set of horns to replace the headers on mine. That truck sure has come a long way Chris.

Re: Same old truck, new pics

So, what's wrong with Cherry Bombs? I am considering going to rams horn exhaust manifolds to replace the Hookers that have been on my truck, probably since sometime in the '80's. They don't leak, but getting to the bolts is not what my abilities like to do. Some good 300HP ram's horns.....now, that would be nice.

But on to the Cherry Bombs....I really think that those are what I want, instead of the 40-series Flowmasters I have been running. Tell me why I wouldn't want to run Cherry Bombs...and make it a good case to avoid them....

I like the look of your truck. It's a whole lot like the one that Boog (thanks, Jim) attached to a post a few weeks ago. Really making me rethink the suede look...

1. cherry bombs belong on redneck FORDS ONLY and sound like crap

2. hooker headers are awesome and if yours dont leak then why change them out

3. FLOWS ARE THE $HIT !! and the best sounding muffler out there. ill buy one of them from ya if ya take them off and put on the crap bombs. ive just heard to many cherry bombs and ive never heard a set that didnt sound like crap and pop/bang when ya got off the gas after high rpms. i aint ridden a hardley thank you

Re: Same old truck, new pics

I really like Rita`s Retro Rod.Is that carpet or vinyl panels on the lower doors and kick panels?I like that interior.

We all have opinions.I believe there`s room for more than one muffler in the world.Especially for guys that were around way before Flowmaster was around.I`ve always had more than one truck and have always liked variety in there sound.I already have one with 2 chamber Flowmasters,so my two projects are screamin`for something else.

Re: Same old truck, new pics

So Chris. What muffs do you have on Rita's truck? Since you hammerd the bombs you yanked off it I know it isn't them.

Oh and Don. I knew that pic would stir you up. It does me too. I'd like to have a fleet like that to go along with my stepper. That thing says hotrod to me. The yellow one is interesting too.

Re: Same old truck, new pics

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'll try to answer some questions:
special, the lower panels and kick panels are upholstered in a green vinyl we found at a fabric shop. We needed to cover the horrible job the PO did cutting speaker holes in the doors and the kick panels weren't very pretty looking either.
ChevLowRay, the headers were cheapy leakers and, just my opinion, I HATE the way cherry bombs sound. Especially when, like this truck, the exhaust is short. They don't sound as bad to me when there is a full exhaust system, but I would never install a set on my own truck, again, just a personal preference. If the sound does it for ya, then go for it, it isn't a product quality issue with me.
Boog, it's got some cheap turbo's on it now, they're almost too quiet. We're going to be installing some chrome tips soon, we'll see if that helps the sound, the main reason for the tips, the truck will have a flame thrower kit installed sometime this month. I'm up in the air on this one, but hey, it's not my call (or truck).

Re: Same old truck, new pics

My first driven car, a '54 Ford, had a pair of Smitty's on it. P.O. before me got a ticket for loud pipes, while sitting at a drive-in (Snappy's) in Little Rock. If you were into cruisin' in The Rock, back in the late 50's and into the early '70's, Snappy's was THE PLACE. Cops knew it and waited for the cars with the loud pipes. Nowadays, we got loud pipes that they ignore. Go figure. Heck, I got a ticket for loud pipes on my '71 VW that had an EMPI Extractor on it, again while sitting on a parking lot at a Kroger. Geeze...didn't the cops ahve anything better to do? It only took two of them to issue me that ticket. Like I was some kinda criminal, or something.

As to the Cherry Bombs...at the Hot Rod Power Tour in Little Rock, I asked about them at the display. Bottom line: I'm gonna go with a pair of 28-inch mufflers, 2 and a half inlet, 2-inch out, with a full exhaust system. I don't know how I will terminate the ends, but I won't go old-school and put pencil tips on them and have them hang underneath the back bumper. I want a little stealthier look.

But if they have a tendency to "sound off" when decelerating, I'm gonna love it! I haven't had a truck that would do that in over 30 years. It's about time.

By the way, seeing "Rita" made me think of this GMC. Maybe it's the green thing...

Re: Same old truck, new pics

Glad to see you`re a law abiding citizen.

I wonder if that one has a matching Interstate battery, too.
When the stricter sound laws (actual decible limit) came out in the early`70s I got pulled in my`56 bug with a set of split pipes. They came out as scavenger pipes about where the fender and body meet. The dang thing sounded like a Harley with drag pipes.I was trompin`it trough the gears and a cop pulled a U-bee and gave me a ticket. That`s when I got a hushed extractor...Turbo-type muffler. It sounded like a factory Porche 912 or 914,then.I remember EMPI and all those pioneer VW performance companies.I used to tell guys my bug was the hotrod of the future and they all laughed.Heck, gas went from $.33 per to close to half a dollar!!We had to do something about such outrageous fuel prices!!!

Walker had a muffler called Turbo Tubes that cracked when on it and off it,but mild tone when going easy or should I say "civil"?They were small diameter like a glasspack with crimps in the case, like side-pipe mufflers.I saw a nameless muffler in Summit up until recently like these.I had them on the Blue & White Highlander K/20 I recently sold. That system came off my Red Orange & White Cheyenne Super K/20.I got that system in`91.I want to look into finding them.I really liked the sound.

Here ya Tim. http://www.classicchambered.com/index.html

I used to sell these on Ebay and at swap meets, and used to be have a jobber . The guys that owns the business worked at Walker (Dynomax) went into to business after Walker discontinued the Turbo Tubes. I sold a bunch of these. They are patterned after the DZ 302 Z28 factory chambered mufflers, and you're right, they sound awesome. They don't have the nasty, poppy sound that a glasspack has, and don't go POP POPITY POP POW POW PU POP POP POW! when you let off the gas like a glasspack does either.

I was wondering if anyone was gonna say anything about that. We're an Interstate dealer at my work so I called up and told them to send me a blem. They sent the green top, which is what the Megatrons are now. I asked the wife if see wanted me to paint it she told me no way, she loved it.

It's an old Sinko, with a pinup of a brunette in a bikini sitting on a beach blanket. I'll take a close up shot of it when I get a chance, it's pretty neat.
