PU or Burb? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been debating on whether to get a truck or burb for my sons and I to restore together. I think I want to go with which ever will be the least expensive and "easiest," because I don't know too much about restoration of a vehicle. What do you all think will be a better starter for us: pickup or burb? WHich would be the least expensive? BTW, I'm not talking about a full restoration.

I would have to say C/K-10-20-30 or Blazer/Jimmy

I would think a pickup would be cheaper and easier.

There are a lot more pickups out there for sale, parts are easier to come by (both used and new), you can remove the cab and bed seperately if needed.

I think a half ton long bed would be a good cheap option. And then cut it down to a short bed if that's what you want to do.

Good luck. Either way you go, it should be a good father/son project.

I would love to have a suburban though.

A Suburban is more like a car to restore.There`s alot more interior,glass,another door(s) and lift hatch,and alot less bodies around for good used parts.

As much as I love my burb over the truck, I have to agree witht he others... get a pick up.

Do a Pick-up for a first resto.Then if it turns out well you will have built the skills to do a Burb and could trade the pick-up for a good starter Burb.Or if like the rest of us use it for a parts chaser while building a burb to go with it.

I know this wasn't an option but if you come across a decent Blazer/Jimmy you should consider it. I have a great love for all versions of these trucks but as far as family fun goes my Jimmy has been wonderful. My boys love working on it with me and riding in it (no top of course) every chance they get.

I agree with the others.... especially a 1/2 ton long bed truck. The trucks are far easier when it comes to finding good sheet metal.

Don't ask me though.... I started with a truck and then fell in love with a burb and ended up with one of each...

Agreed new myself to restoring . yet i got a c10 I love the burbs thou. especilly since you got a family for im single! The more and more I work on her the more and more I its all worth it!! great investment for the famliy!! For still workin with pops and dads trruck/cars!! best of luck with whatever you choose keep us updated i love the pics and progress story's and updates keeps on the up and up for ideas!

I have a Burb, would absolutely vote for pick up for cost, unless you are gonna do it all yourself, even then it will still cost more, twice the everything xcept running gear

But the burb sure is fun going to the beach or somethin with six people. I just figure mpg per person, makes me a little happier, If I could fit 12 people all the time I'd be as efficient as a prius with one guy in it

with everyone above. The pickup would be the cheapest and best for a first time build...I would love to have a 67-72 Suburban eventually though, they're just too cool. I have this board to thank for getting the itch for a Suburban. Stick around long enough and the guys on this board will have you wanting one too.

I know it wasn't part of your original question, but I have to throw in another vote for the Blazer. After owning half a dozen Chevy & GMC trucks from 64 to 72 (and a couple of 76-78) I found the one that I consider a keeper.
